Cowichan Green Community (CGC), located in Duncan BC, is hiring a Director of Operations. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will lead our team in its mission to cultivate food, community, and resilience. Our mandate is to improve food security by developing a strong food system, supporting an increase of urban and rural food production, and by offering a variety of food-related initiatives.

Job Duties

As the Director of Operations, you will be responsible for providing leadership and operational management to CGC. You are a leader of leaders and your skills and experience will be used in the following activities: 

Human Resources

  • Ensuring all aspects of HR are compliant and current for a team of 25 + employees, including recruitment, onboarding and performance management
  • Leading monthly staff meetings and connecting weekly with Managers
  • Overseeing and supporting the volunteer program
  • Overseeing the development and maintenance of all OH&S requirements
  • Acting as back-up to the ED as necessary


  • Ensuring the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization through policy and procedure administration, and oversight of programs and services
  • Managing all aspects of internal and external risk factors 
  • Assisting with development and maintenance of budgets, financial reporting, and banking
  • Assisting the ED with grant applications and sourcing funding as needed
  • Organizing fundraising and special events
  • Developing project plans for new initiatives


  • Keeping the ED informed of all HR-related issues, communications and project plans
  • Overseeing external communications, including e-newsletters, social media, website, email updates and media releases including development of all templates
  • Managing all promotional and advertising activities

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years organizational management experience with proven ability to lead people, including recruitment, performance management, onboarding and engagement
  • Working knowledge of Provincial HR legislation including Employment Standards, Human Rights and Occupational Health and Safety
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of Quickbooks
  • Strong knowledge of Social Media platforms, WordPress, Canva, and databases
  • Experience working with community-based non-profits and knowledge and understanding of food security are considered an asset

Salary: $75,000 – $83,000 per annum.
