Position Overview:
Fort Calgary is recruiting for one (1) Summer Camp Coordinator as part of the 2024 Canada Summer Jobs Program. Fort Calgary Summer Camps for children ages 6-11 offer a fun and educational environment that encourages kids to build friendships, develop confidence, and participate as active citizens in the community. Camp Coordinator will be responsible for working with the Manager to develop camp programming, assist with administration and act as a back-up camp leader. This position is pending funding with an anticipated start date of early May. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning, leading and modifying camp programs and activities. 
  • Oversee camp activities when the Manager is absent.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to support set up, deliver, and clean up after camp programs. 
  • Assist in camp administrative and email communication with camper parents and guardians.
  • Act as a back-up camp leader in case of illness.
  • Support campers with diverse learning needs. 
  • Respond in a professional and calm manner when resolving camp issues. 
  • Communicate professionally with guardians about their child’s experience at camp. 
  • Assess and manage risk while supervising activities. 
  • React quickly and responsibly to emergency situations.
  • Manage stressful situations calmly and effectively. 
  • Consistently follow program policies and procedures. 


  • Minimum age requirement is 18 years old.
  • Have at least four year of experience supervising children in a formal or informal learning environment. 
  • Supervising experience is a bonus.
  • Highly energetic, creative, and spontaneous, with contagious enthusiasm. 
  • Enjoy working with children aged 6-11 years old.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and decision-making skills.
  • Current (or readiness to obtain) Level 1 Emergency First Aid & CPR Certificate. 
  • Knowledge and passion in areas of art, science and/or local history is considered an asset. 
  • Knowledge of Canadian settler-colonialism history and Indigenous relations is considered an asset.

Availability Requirements:

  • This is an onsite position, with availability required Monday to Friday, from May to late August 2024 (funding dependant).
  • Shifts will be within the hours of 7:45am - 5:15pm. Camp Coordinator will rotate their shifts to support these hours.
  • Camp operates from 9 am – 4 pm, with before care from 8 - 9 am, and after care from 4 - 5 pm. 

Candidates must be eligible as per the Canada Summer Jobs guidelines. This includes: 

  • being legally entitled to work in Canada, 
  • being between the ages of 15-30.

Candidates are not required to be a student to be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
