Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids (BB4CK) is a mission-focused grassroots organization, working to build and strengthen communities that ensure every child has enough to eat at school. Our team is small, working together in our areas of strength to ensure we can have broad impact in our community. 

 

Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids has increased the number of hungry kids fed daily through its programs by almost 70% since 2015. To accomplish this increased impact, BB4CK has broadened its program delivery through community partnerships and a focus on encouraging and supporting people in Calgary to act in meaningful ways to feed kids. Today, BB4CK continues to grow and transition in order to achieve our goal of no hungry kids. This is an exciting and challenging time in our organizational life, as we continue to meet the growing need in our community, while also focusing our efforts on strengthening our systems and processes to support our growing organization.

Job Title: Community Volunteer Engagement Coordinator (CVEC) 

Team:  Active member of K-12 Programs, led by the K-12 Programs Team Lead 

Lead:  Community Volunteer Engagement Specialist (CVES) 

Hours & Days of Work: 1.0FTE; 40 hours/week, typically 7am-3pm Monday-Friday 

Role: Temporary Contract- 12 Month Parental Coverage 

 

Overview of the Community Volunteer Engagement Coordinator Role: 

Our BB4CK Community Satellite Kitchens continue to grow to ensure all kids are fed in our community. Currently BB4CK has 30 Community Kitchens throughout the city, managed by volunteers. The role of CVEC is to support these kitchens and their operations. This person will be a leader, have keen organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a busy and changing environment. Reporting to the Community Volunteer Engagement Specialist, the CVEC will work collaboratively to support BB4CK’s operations and volunteers. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

Whole Organization: 

  • Be responsible for own health and wellness, personally and professionally, and take ownership to ensure you are able to perform this role as needed
  • Contribute wholeheartedly to BB4CK’s vision and mission
  • Working effectively on tasks assigned within the context of BB4CK values and culture

 

Role Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Carryout the overall vision of Community Programming
  • Be the direct contact for a specific number of Community Groups (15-20)
  • Recruit and build Community Groups in partnership with the CVES
  • Community and Club Engagement
  • Visiting Schools/Clubs and representing BB4CK in a number of different ways (presentations, volunteer recruitment, community engagement, public speaking/presentations)
  • Deliver funding to Schools, Community Groups, Day Camps etc.
  • Ensuring health and safety of the Community Satellite Kitchens: directing volunteers on cleaning, food safety practices and kitchen efficiencies
  • Work within and maintain all standards as set forward by AHS and work collaboratively with our inspector as needed

 

Volunteer Program Operations: 

  • In person relationship building
  • Recruitment and Onboarding
  • Identifying needs for new roles or opportunities within the BB4CK Volunteer Program
  • Co-create and implement volunteer programs and opportunities
  • Occasionally host groups at our Main Kitchen in the Calgary Beltline
  • Engage with volunteer activities
  • Rotation of leading EBL groups and summer camp production at Main Kitchen

Qualifications: 

  • Experience that demonstrates an ability to work with & leading volunteers
  • Experience in a kitchen environment and/or food safe certification an asset
  • Expertise in nutrition an asset
  • “Can do” attitude, and collaborative work approach
  • As the Community Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will be on-site at all BB4CK Kitchens, a valid driver license, personal vehicle and willingness to drive across the city is required (parking and mileage is reimbursed).

 

BB4CK offers a competitive total compensation approach to support the physical, psychological, cultural and financial wellbeing of our people. Base salary is calculated at the 50th percentile of market value with additional benefits equivalent to over $15,000.
