YW Calgary is searching for a Fundraising and Events Assistant to support the annual fundraising activities of YW Calgary. This will include assisting in YW Calgary’s signature fundraising event; YWHISPER Gala, as well as third party and peer to peer fundraising events, to increase revenue and the profile of the YW. The position will also support the communications and stewardship activities of fundraising by way of writing, reporting, data processing and entry, data analytics and research. Resource Development staff are expected to exercise compliance with the YW Resource Development Ethical Fundraising Policies; adhere to Canada Revenue Agency regulations; ensure constituent information is accurately recorded; and provide stewardship in accordance with guidelines.

 

This position is a temporary summer student position contingent on funding through the Canada Summer Job Program (CSJP) This position works 37.5 hours per week, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm through April to September.  As a requirement of the CSJP, this position is open to youth up to 30 years of age. Candidates must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada.

WHAT YOU'LL DO: 

  • Support team in reaching fundraising goal and attendee targets
  • Connect with community members, solicit silent auction items and provide other event support
  • Staff events as needed and support with day to day event logistics
  • Contribute to the development of event marketing strategies and work with marketing team on deliverables
  • Website content creation and regular updates
  • Social media content creation
  • Provide sponsors with excellent customer service and support activation elements
  • Collaborate with other YW departments including Communications and Brand and Marketing
  • Steward customer relations through coordinating activities and thank you calls
  • Manage and ensure agreed upon recognition is applied
  • Ensure accurate donor information is recorded and updated
  • Interest in writing compelling donor communication including thank you letters, impact reports and other ad hoc reporting as required
  • Interest in learning the current YW donor information systems including: improving/maintaining database integrity; updating donor information; documenting processes.
  • Coordinate with team members across the organization as required on projects, initiatives and events
  • Conduct oneself in a professional, business-like manner which includes appropriate telephone etiquette, courteous electronic and in person communication and professional attire
  • Foster and contribute to a culture of inclusion and equity in a diverse work environment; understand and recognize that individual differences significantly contribute to YW Calgary’s success in its programs and workplace.
  • Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into one’s role, work, and engagement with others, as aligned with YW Calgary’s values and Practice Framework.

  • Report any hazards or incidents immediately to your leader in accordance with YW Calgary’s incident reporting requirements to help ensure pro-active risk mitigation and management in compliance with legislative requirements (Occupational Health & Safety, Workers’ Compensation Board, etc.)
  • Use all safety materials, equipment, devices, and tools required to safely perform work in alignment with YW’s role and task requirements.
  • Share individual accountability to create and maintain an inclusive environment the fosters a physical and psychologically safe workplace. Actively participate in the implementation of the National Standard for Psychological Health & Safety and integrate into all work practices and interactions with colleagues.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING: 

  • A Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search and a Child Intervention Record Check are required due to the nature of our work.
  • 1-2 years of experience in event planning, customer service, marketing or related field. 
  • Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or person protected under the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and legally entitled to work and study in Canada.  
  • Reside in Alberta with Alberta address
  • Returning to post-secondary institution to continue studying full-time no later than November 1. 
  • Must be enrolled in a program that will result in a Certificate, Diploma, or Degree. Technical training for Apprenticeship is not eligible. 
  • Well-developed writing, presentation and communication skills 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task and prioritize 
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and comfortable around people  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite applications (Teams, PowerPoint, Word etc.)  
  • Knowledge of databases, website management and social media is considered an asset.
