Job title:          Children’s Part-Time Ministry Leader

Location:         Fish Creek United Church, Calgary

Reports to:      Minister of Fish Creek United Church


With guidance from a supervising minister, with the ultimate goal of helping children come to know, love and serve God through Jesus Christ, provide effective and engaging Kids in Action Sunday morning programming, for children aged 3-12. This is a lay position. 


  1. To develop a rapport with the children and families of the Community of Faith
  2. To execute and support spiritual and faith development programs and opportunities for the children and families, working with the provided curriculum, and the supervising minister
  3. Be present and provide leadership on Sunday mornings including setup, program delivery, and clean-up.
  4. Provide a fun, safe, engaging and faithful environment for children registered in Kids in Action.
  5. Prepare weekly stations prior to Sunday morning for each rotation schedule, including purchasing supplies, creating examples, preparing crafts and activities, and organizing station bins from the provided lesson plans.
  6. Recruit and follow up with weekly volunteers to assist in leading planned program.
  7. In conjunction with the supervising minister, plan and facilitate Kids in Action Volunteer orientation.
  8. Greet families and children on arrival and departure from program and provide extra assistance as needed, maintain contact with current and new families.
  9. Participate, in conjunction with the supervising minister, in planning and implementing key events.
  10. Plan, organize and lead, or coordinate the leadership of, modified programming on designated Sundays and potentially for the month of June.
  11. Perform related administrative duties (registration, attendance, bulletin boards, announcements etc.)
  12. Meet with supervising minister to communicate program plans, needs and updates regarding Kids in Action.
  13. Liaise with the Children, Youth and Young Adult committee
  14. Ensure that all requirements of Duty of Care are fulfilled for volunteers
  15. To report to supervising minister information for Council meetings



  1. Interest in working with children
  2. Strong communication and teamwork skills
  3. Self-motivated, ability to work independently and in team
  4. Current First Aid and CPR Level C certification
  5. Evidence of a clear Police Record Check with vulnerable sector search
  6. Previous experience in children’s programming, preferred
  7. Experience in and knowledge of United Church of Canada, preferred
  8. Respect for Fish Creek’s values and inclusion statement
