Fundraising Manager, The Children’s Book Bank 


Start Date: August 6, 2024 


The Children’s Book Bank is looking to hire an enthusiastic Fundraising Manager to develop a fundraising strategy and secure financial support for our organization and fulfill the mission of The Children’s Book Bank.  


The Fundraising Manager will set and achieve fundraising goals as laid out in the strategy, in collaboration with the Executive Director and Fundraising Committee of the Board of Directors, work to develop knowledge of fundraisers' interests, collect impact data and cultivate relationships with fellow employees, volunteers and visitors.  


The Manager is responsible for developing and engaging a portfolio of major gift philanthropists through individual and foundation giving. The key focus will be on raising funds toward annual revenue goals through the successful cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of foundations, donors and prospects. If special events are part of the fundraising plan, the applicant will be expected to play a role.  


We are looking for a candidate who will foster a high-growth approach to philanthropy; someone comfortable leading solicitation with current donors and cultivating new prospects. Our successful candidate will have experience working with and engaging with foundations, grant writing and securing current gifts. Preferred candidates will be self-motivated, deadline-driven multitaskers, have a proven record of success meeting fundraising targets, who also have a vested interest in improving the lives of high-needs children in Toronto through the power of books. 


Fundraising Manager Responsibilities: 

  1. Develop a fundraising strategy and meet annual fundraising goals  
  • Work with the Executive Director and Fundraising Committee to create and implement a multi-year fundraising plan 
  • Manage grant applications, proposals, and presentations for donor and foundation engagement 
  • Oversee the creation of stewardship materials (including briefs, decks, letters etc.), speaking notes, reporting materials, impact reports and data analysis 
  • Support the development and execution of cultivation and solicitation initiatives that support the organization’s annual fundraising goal, including events and online campaigns.  
  • Monitor and evaluate fundraising performance, track donor interactions, and maintain accurate records in the database.

      2. Manage donor stewardship, engagement, and retention 

  • Manage the prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual and corporate donors and prospects effectively using tailored approaches for maximum impact and continued support 
  • Support donor retention strategies within the organization and create stewardship and cultivation initiatives to ensure major gift retention is met and falls well within the industry best practices 
  • Utilize donor data and research to develop targeted donor engagement plans 
  • Maintain records on past, present, and prospective funders.

      3. Other: 

  • With support from the Executive Director, provide the Fundraising Committee with regular progress reports and dashboards 
  • Stay informed on best practices, trends, and regulations in Philanthropy and Fundraising  
  • As we are a small team, supervising programming spaces will occasionally be required, as is required of all staff. 


Fundraising Manager Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in business, not-for-profit management, or related field 
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience as a fundraiser in the not-for-profit sector with a proven record of leading fundraising initiatives  
  • Achieved or working towards a CFRE  
  • Strong business development skills and experience securing philanthropic commitments in relationship-based fundraising, grant writing, and corporate partnerships   
  • Strong writing skills with an ability to complete grant applications independently and quickly 
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and strong project management, planning, and prioritization skills  
  • Confident interpersonal skills and strong verbal skills including an ability to tell compelling stories  
  • Experience with donor cultivation, solicitation and retention, and knowledge of the donor relationship cycle, management principles, and major gift development areas such as events, stewardship, and planned giving 
  • Proficient with MS Office applications and DMS programs 
  • Demonstrating advanced computer proficiency with MS Office and experience with fundraising databases and software 
  • Possessing a genuine interest in children’s literature and understanding of how improved literacy rates can reduce poverty rates.

  •  Salary - $60,000  
  • 12-month contract with the possibility of a full-time permanent position after this period 
  • Full-time hybrid with an expectation to be in office 2-3 days per week
