Terra Centre for Teen Parents is a non-profit organization that has been serving pregnant and parenting teens in Edmonton for 53 years. Terra is recognized for its leadership, innovation and collaboration in delivering services to teen parents and their children. Job Overview:   

As a member of the Fund and Resource Development (FD/RD) team, the Coordinator Grant Writing will play a crucial role in securing funding to support programs, initiatives, and strategic goals of Terra. With support from and supervision of Director, Fund Development, the Coordinator Grant Writing will support the mission of Terra by increasing grant writing results in the following ways:

 

  • Prospect research of grants (utilizing the Grant Connect tool as well as other tools)
  • Creating a plan for revenue generation for the year through grants
  • Writing grants
  • Managing the fulfillment report schedule and completing fulfillment report to funders as scheduled
  • Supporting program staff with requests for gift-in-kind support (event tickets, etc.) and small grants for specific projects/events (e.g. block party permit and budget)

 

Job Conditions:   

This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, 35 hours/week, working at Terra west end location, 10320 146 St. NW. The position is full-time temporary until March 31, 2026, with potential to become full-time permanent. Regular hours are 9am – 4:30pm, except on days with FD/RD led events, such as donor or volunteer appreciation events, or our annual fundraising event. Members of the FD/RD team are expected to flex their hours to support these events.

 

Key responsibilities:   

  • Researching and identifying grant opportunities with an emphasis on private and public foundations and corporate grants
  • Writing compelling and persuasive grant proposals that align with grant objectives and requirements and Terra’s mission and goals.
  • Collaborating with program staff to gather necessary information and develop narratives.
  • Managing the grant application process from start to finish, including submission, follow-up, and reporting.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive database of grant opportunities, applications, and outcomes.
  • Providing monthly reports related to progress of activities and grant applications.
  • Supporting Fund Development team events – donor and volunteer appreciation events, fundraising event, and other small events on an as-needed basis.
  • Supporting with giving building tours, accepting gifts at reception, and other FD/RD team-related duties

 

Qualifications/Requirements:  

  • Experience in writing compelling and inspiring grants related to community development and case for support writing. Demonstrated transferrable skills sets in compelling and inspiring writing.
  • A successful track record of securing funding. Experience with nonprofit organizations and an understanding of funding structures for nonprofits (government funding, philanthropy, etc.)
  • Post Secondary Education related to English, Communications, or a related field

 

Knowledge and Abilities:   

  • Knowledge and understanding of human service work - families of diverse backgrounds, community members working through mental illness and substance use disorders, barriers and issues that pregnant and parenting young families face.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong research and analytical abilities
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

 

Other requirements:   

  • A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with 1 million liability insurance 
  • Current clear Drivers Abstract 
  • Ability to work flexible hours  
  • Clear Police Information Check and Child Intervention Check that are dated within 90 Days of the start date

Compensation and Benefits: The starting salary for the position is $60,000-$62,857.    

Upon completion of a probationary period, we offer a comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package including RRSP contribution. Staff have three weeks of vacation, and, in addition, the agency is closed between Christmas day and New Years.
