The Primary Educator works in a team environment to implement individualized intervention plans for youth in care, while overseeing a group of youth. The Primary Educator works professionally showing respect, support and consideration for both the team members and clients, acting as an appropriate role model. The Educator is directly responsible to the Home Manager.
The candidate must be able to fulfil the following list of duties and responsibilities:
- The Primary Educator is the central communicator, working with professionals and family members involved in the youth’s life.
- Participates in the intervention planning meetings, school meetings, orientation table, social work meetings, and any other meetings required by the Home Manager.
- Supports youth in achieving goals outlined in their individual intervention plan. This includes, one-to-one meetings, bi-weekly progress reports, exploring their educational, vocational, employment and personal goals.
- Guides youth in following the basic expectations of the program and assists youth in achieving their educational, vocational, employment and personal goals.
- Implements house rules, expectations, consequences etc.
- To act in a supportive role to ensure the safety and security of all youth in our care, and their basic needs are met.
The potential candidate should possess the following abilities:
- To establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with youth in care, their families and other important persons in the youth’s life, and to participate in the youth’s re-education through the utilization of daily life events.
- To be able to intervene in crisis-like situations helping youth and their family develop skills, attitudes and values necessary for effective living.
- To organize and animate therapeutic program activities for youth in the home, and to participate in all activities.
- To support and ensure the effective functioning and general administration of Teen Haven.
Requirements and Salary:
- Minimally, a CEGEP diploma in a corresponding field of study.
- Must pass a police background check.
- Full-time position minimally every other weekend with some flexibility on weekday evenings.
- Salary is based on Echelon Scale ranging $26.78-$31.28/hour
