Capacity Building Facilitator – Syphilis Lead

Full-time (35 hrs/wk),  3-year contract

HIV Edmonton is an inclusive and dynamic community-based organization devoted to working with diverse communities in amiskwaciswâskahikan and across Treaty 6 territory. We aim to build awareness of sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBI), prevent new transmissions, help people living with HIV and other STBBI to live longer, healthier lives, and support community members without judgement, stigma, or discrimination. Our Prevention & Education team primarily works within and alongside three communities disproportionately affected by HIV and other STBBI: Indigenous people, 2SLGBTQ+ people, and African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) people. We develop responsive, community-driven approaches to promote STBBI prevention, testing, and treatment.

The workplace culture of HIV Edmonton is supportive and team-oriented. We value lived experience and encourage each other to show up as our whole selves. Although our work is separated into distinct teams, we collaborate to ensure we’re providing services in an integrated way that makes use of our collective strengths. Anti-oppression is important to us – our health equity perspective focuses on ways that we may contribute to eliminating health barriers within our work. This is particularly relevant to our work with Indigenous peoples. Using the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s seven calls to action related to health as our guide, we have a duty to provide culturally-appropriate care and services to Indigenous community members and to promote antiracism and trauma-informed care on Treaty 6 territory.

  • Collaborating with the team to support overall program goals and development of new initiatives
  • Coordinating with Elders and Support & Outreach to facilitate Indigenous cultural connections
