Who We Are

Helping Spirit Lodge Society (HSLS) is a not-for-profit organization founded because of the community discussions and decisions made during community forums through 1990. The United Native Nations originally sponsored the first project and opened office for the society on February 1, 1990. The organization provides wrap-around services to Women and Children fleeing violence.

 

Job Summary

The position is responsible for ensuring the Spirit Way 2nd Stage Program is high performing, functions in accordance with the agency’s standards of excellence, mission, contractual requirements, and governing laws. The Manger will have the ability to identify and develop programming based on the needs of the women and children utilizing the services. This position requires excellent conflict resolution skills and high interpersonal aptitude dealing with staff and clients. The Program Manager will perform all work in a culturally responsive manner consistent with the HSLS mission and guiding principles. Participate in general HSLS staff activities and specific duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing and coordinating day to day operation of the Spirit Way Program
  • Maintaining strong relationships with partner agencies and other stakeholders through meetings, networking, training, technical assistance, and dissemination of public policy and Housing First information.
  • Supervising multi-level staff: provide leadership to program staff to assure daily program operations are conducted efficiently and in compliance with a variety of public and private contracts and Agency standards.
  • Assuring program performance and outcome data is collected on an accurate and timely basis.
  • Provide support and technical assistance to program and agency team about supportive and permanent housing trends and initiatives, especially Housing First models. Engage with partnering agencies and other stakeholders about housing options beyond emergency shelter.
  • Working with HSLS Management, Housing, Property Management, Transitional Housing and other HSLS department’s staff to assure services are provided in accordance with HSLS mission and objectives.
  • Train, supervise and oversee the Spirit Way team
  • Measure services to performance goals and evaluate effectiveness of services.
  • Managing a budget including drafting budgets annually, monitoring spending on monthly basis, and making recommendations for budget revisions. Assist with and prepare when needed new and annual grant renewal applications.
  • Maintaining an active interest in professional field at all levels: analyze trends and innovations in the industry and integrate these into program services when appropriate.
  • Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Social Work, Psychology or any related field.

  • Working knowledge of Housing First principles and practices.

  • Five (2-3) years of experience in a supervisory position in affordable housing field that includes supervisory experience and/or working with homeless

  • Excellent communication skills including public speaking skills, one on one interpersonal skills, writing skills and computer skills. These skills will be demonstrated with clear communicate (in written and spoken form), the ability to communicate the policies and philosophies of the agency in a professional manner and the ability to work effectively with staff, clients of all income levels, community members and funders.

  • Ability to understand, prepare and monitor financial reports and program budgets; including strong spreadsheet and database skills and the analytical skills needed to think strategically and understand complex government regulations and housing law.
