Job Summary:

The Food Bank Lead Driver reports directly to the Food Access Supervisor and works in collaboration with the Warehouse, Fresh Food Recovery and Home Delivery Coordinators along with key satellite location staff. The Lead Driver will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the drivers including the scheduling and coordinating of driver routes, managing vehicle maintenance, ensuring safety practices are followed, and maintaining positive public presence when out in the community. The Lead Driver provides mentoring as necessary, and collaborates and interacts with others in a positive, and effective manner.  The Lead Driver must have the ability to make sound decisions and be proactively involved in storage capacity decisions. 

Your Role:

Archway’s Lead Driver with the Food Bank contributes by:

  • Scheduling drivers for daily and weekly pickups and deliveries to and from the Food Bank and Warehouse.
  • Working in collaboration with the Warehouse Coordinator, Fresh Food Recovery Coordinator, Home Delivery Coordinator and key satellite location staff in scheduling deliveries and pickups.
  • Communicating regularly with both internal and external stakeholders, coordinating pickups and deliveries for the Fresh Food Recovery program, satellite locations, and donated food.
  • Scheduling regular maintenance for the Food Bank vehicles to include vehicle repairs, tune-ups, and inspections.
  • Managing and following up on reported vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations or damage to the vehicles.
  • Ensuring drivers have completed pre-and post-shift equipment and vehicle checks for all trucks.
  • Monitoring drivers and ensuring all drivers are properly trained and possess the necessary skills for safe driving.
  • Ensuring all drivers are trained on the safety regulations for operating Food Bank vehicles, truck tailgates and pallet jacks.
  • Overseeing safety standards during loading, unloading and delivery of food.

 

This position is a great fit for someone who has experience in scheduling and coordinating driver routes, who is well organized and has excellent attention to detail, has good networking and relationship building skills, and can lead and direct groups of people.

  • A permanent, full-time position at 40 hours per week, availability Mondays to Fridays, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and a clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • At least one-year experience in a customer service position.
  • At least one-year experience, preferably driving vans, forklifts and/or other machinery.
  • At least one-year leadership experience is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of safe working procedures and the ability to train staff based on those requirements.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
