Summary:

Clinical Counsellor is responsible for case management and providing resource-based counselling to individuals and their families with youth or children under the age of 18 in the home who are experiencing difficulties in parenting, family dynamics/relationships, other types of crisis or mild to moderate mental health and related concerns.  The work takes place in the office or virtually at the preference of the client. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide family counselling to individuals and families to support the clients in managing current risks and to increase their effectiveness in dealing with future concerns and/or challenges. This will include:
• Working collaboratively with the persons served to provide case management and risk assessment, goal setting, planning, counselling, closure and where appropriate, follow up.
• Participating in Integrated Case Management, and/or acting as case manager, to work with the person(s) served to coordinate/collaborate with other service providers and stakeholders.
• Maintaining appropriate and timely documentation, client information system and MCF tracking systems.
• For those who participate in the Internship Program, providing instruction, regular supervision of assigned interns, ensuring the Intern’s adherence to agency policy and practices.
• Participating in regular quality assurance reviews, case and team consultation/supervision and meetings as required.
• Participating in program development.
• Liaising and referral with community agencies, committees, professionals.
• Participate in and support agency activities, vision, mission and values.
• Ensure that work practices comply with agency health and safety standards, program policies and procedures and administrative records are complete, timely and accurate.

Qualifications Required:

• Clinical Counsellor will have a graduate degree in counselling, social work, psychology or a related field.
• Clinical Counsellor will have at least 3 years counselling experience specifically with families.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• The Clinical Counsellor understands and can apply resource-based counselling; has the capacity to work from more than one modality (including modalities suited to children) to respond to each client.
• Is knowledgeable about family counselling theories and practices, risk assessment and case management.
• Speaking a second language is considered a strong asset for this position.
• Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to engage clients.
• Demonstrates creativity with case planning, program development and supervision.
• Shows flexibility in responding to changing conditions and is a committed team player.

Hours of work:    21 hours per week (flexible to be scheduled with supervisor, some evenings may be required)
