We are looking for an Accountant to become an integral part of our finance team. The accountant will perform accounting duties in compliance with established internal controls, maintaining databases, systems, processes, financial records, and reports with the highest regard for confidentiality and accuracy. The successful candidate combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles and diligence with respect to accounting, administration, and financial reporting.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage daily accounting tasks, general ledger, journal entries, bank reconciliations and accruals.
  • Develop, maintain, and document timely and accurate financial statements and reports that follow Canadian Accounting Standards for not-for-profit organizations.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial statements to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
  • Review and analyze government funded contracts for accuracy.
  • Remit and pay government taxes/remittances ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, tax laws.
  • Prepare month-end working papers and monthly reporting procedures and take ownership over the month-end process.
  • Participate in the year end audit and review engagements with the Executive Director and Auditors.
  • Preparation and review capital assets listing schedules and depreciation expense and net book value calculations.
  • GIC Tracking
  • Payroll processing relief
  • Donations processing
  • Actively participate in new system implementation.
  • Perform other related duties as required in all the daily accounting functions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related discipline
  • Minimum three (3) years of full cycle accounting experience
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) included in Full Cycle Accounting.
  • Accounting experience in a non-profit would be an asset.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Advanced competency in accounting software specifically Accpac (Sage ERP systems), QuickBooks, Payworks
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
