Job Summary:

The Senior Web Administrator is responsible for the secure and reliable operation of all S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s websites and web applications through hardening, auditing hosting providers and developers, and monitoring web platforms. They support S.U.C.C.E.S.S. programs and website owners, helping them work with external developers to make changes and develop new websites. Senior Web Administrator also works closely with program and department staff involved in technical aspects of websites operations (including other web administrators) and other groups in the IT team.

 

Reports to: IT Applications Manager 

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

 

Strategy & Planning

  • Participates in setting organizational strategy and policy for web development and web operations
  • Works with programs, websites owners, hosting providers and developers to implement S.U.C.C.E.S.S. policies and guidelines in all aspects of website operations
  • Develops and communicates website usage and security policies and standards to website owners and administrators

 

Website Operations

  • Maintains records of website / web application and server related information such as components, plugins, add-ons and other important web operations information
  • Collaborates with other IT groups including Security, Networking and Infrastructure in website operations delivery
  • Collaborates and coordinate with program and department staff involved in website operations including, web administrators for specific websites, web content creators, digital navigators and others
  • Coordinates external developers and hosting providers in website operations, website development, website infrastructure changes and cyber security projects
  • Manages and secures code repositories for web applications and have static code testing implemented
  • Develops a backup strategy, oversee its execution, and conduct regular testing of backup
  • Periodically reviews website and web server administrators to  ensure that only authorized individuals have appropriate access to website resources
  • Plans and implements periodic penetration testing for websites and follow through on remediations
  • Implements and maintains Web Application Firewalls and monitor website traffic
  • Manage and renew domain registrations, DNS Records and SSL Certificates for websites
  • Ensures that SSO (Single Sign On) and/or MFA (Multi Factor Authentication) is used by website administrators and users that have access to sensitive data.
  • Sets up (if required) and maintains separate testing/sandbox environment for websites
  • Ensures use of sufficient encryption in network communications between the website and users
  • Completes annual security audits for websites, developers and hosting providers.
  • Audits and approves new developers and hosting providers
  • Ensures that OWASP best practices are applied by the developers during software development life cycle (SDLC), integration and deployment (CI/DC)
  • Retains administrative access to websites and hosting environments to monitor compliance with security standards
  • Occasionally performs website maintenance tasks including software updates, security patches, resolving performance bottlenecks, optimizing performance, search engine optimization and other tasks as required

 

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer systems design and development or computer science, and/or four years’ equivalent work experience
  • Certifications in cybersecurity will be an asset
  • Minimum 3 years’ direct experience administrating cloud hosting
  • In-depth knowledge of Web technologies, protocols, and tools including Git
  • Strong understanding of at least one web programming language (PHP, JavaScript, Python etc.), Linux operating systems, Webservers (Apache, Nginx) and Databases
  • Thorough understanding of application development methodologies and the systems development life cycle
  • Demonstrated expertise in operating system and network security fundamentals for publicly accessible services hosted on Linux servers
  • Proven experience in installing, upgrading, and maintaining Web servers and associated Linux operating systems
  • Experience implementing network resources in public cloud context, including DNS, and web application firewalls
  • Vendor management experience
  • Experience with Google Analytics is an asset
