Employment Type: 1-year contract, 4 days (28 hours) per week  

Reports to: Executive Director  

Location: Flexible within British Columbia  

Work Model: Remote with occasional travel within British Columbia.

Salary: $50,000 to $60,000 (depending on experience)

The British Columbia Co-operative Association (BCCA) is the provincial umbrella association for cooperative enterprises and credit unions across urban and rural British Columbia. THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a dynamic and creative Public Relations Specialist with a strong focus on member engagement to join our team for one year, with the possibility of becoming a permanent, full-time position. In this role, you will be responsible for fostering strong relationships and building a positive image of BCCA with members, the media, the public and other invested parties. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and visibility of the BC Co-operative sector while working remotely.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Media Relations:
    • Write press releases, pitch stories to journalists, and secure earned media
  • Website Management:
    • Regularly update and maintain BCCA’s website.
    • Ensure content is current, engaging, and aligned with BCCA’s brand and messaging.
  • Newsletter Creation:
    • Develop, design, and distribute a monthly newsletter to keep our members informed and engaged.
    • Collaborate with team members to source relevant content and highlight key updates.
  • Social Media Management:
    • Manage and grow our social media presence across various platforms.
    • Create and schedule posts, monitor engagement, and respond to comments and messages.
    • Develop strategies to increase reach and engagement with our online community.
  • Content Creation:
    • Produce high-quality, engaging content for digital platforms, including blog posts, articles, videos, and infographics.
    • Collaborate with the team to ensure content aligns with organizational goals and resonates with our audience.
  • Member Engagement:
    • Work closely with our members to highlight their stories and successes.
    • Develop and implement strategies to increase member participation and satisfaction.
    • Engage with potential members and grow our member base. 
    • Serve as a key point of contact for members, addressing their needs and fostering strong relationships.
    • Oversee member application process and data management.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Proven experience in public relations, marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in WordPress, social media platforms, Canva, and Constant Contact.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and content creation skills.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing strategies and best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working with membership-based organizations is a plus.
