Position title: Cashier
Reports to: Accounting /Administration Office Supervisor
Status: Permanent, part-time
Compensation: $28.66 per hour (Group 3 MoveUP 378)
Hours: 20 hours per week; Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Position Purpose
The Cashier position provides services relating to incoming cash, cheques, outgoing disbursements and balance Cash On-Hand in vault in the morning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Open vault daily; responsible for combination to vault.
- Monitor entry to vault area for authorized employees only.
- Process and reconcile all receipts of cash and checks and cash reimbursements from the AMS Businesses, Clubs and Organizations under the AMS Umbrella.
- Prepare separate month end cut offs for all Business deposits.
- Prepare bank deposit for Brinks pickup and process check deposit through ChequePro.
- Complete, balance Daily cashbook activity for Cash On Hand worksheet net of cash disbursements and circulate for a surprise check.
- Determine and place coin order via email to the bank as required.
- Record and carry out foreign exchange calculation.
- Disburse cash funds as directed for businesses, services, and clubs.
- Prepare cash floats for event ticket sales, and cash boxes for all AMS organizations as required.
- Provide and process change requests as required by the businesses in the Student Union Building.
- Prepare change floats and conduct float audits for all business twice a year.
- Coordinate the maintenance of the bill counter and adding machine.
- Investigate unusual occurrences of cash activities and report to management.
- Organize and file club deposit forms alphabetically in the club folders and follow up/return stale dated ones.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum high school graduation. Diploma from an accredited institution in Banking is preferred. Or combination of education and minimum of 3 years experience in high volume cash handling and not limited to banking procedures and basic bookkeeping.
- Speed, accuracy, and a customer service disposition essential
- Ability to operate office equipment.
- Ability to prioritize work and work with limited supervision
- A personality and ability to deal effectively with students and others and work compatibly with fellow employees.
- Must be honest, trustworthy, and subject to credit and background check.
- Must have Microsoft Office experience; proficient in Outlook and Excel preferred.
