JOB SUMMARY:

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the business primarily focused on tenant relations, supervision, building operations, development, and community building and engagement. The COO is expected to protect and develop the sense of tenant community at Brentwood Community Development Group (BCDG).

As a member of the Executive team, the COO plays an integral part in the leadership of the company and maintains the highest standards of professionalism.

The COO works in person at the Matheson Seniors property located at 11445-135 Street with working hours from 8:00-16:30, Monday to Friday.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tenant Relations:

  • Oversee the coordination of community-building and engagement activities and events
  • Resolve escalated tenant issues
  • Take legal action when tenants fail to fulfill their obligations
  • Make management level decisions related to tenant concerns
  • Represent the company at tenant meetings and events including liaison committee, Matheson Tenant Society, and townhall meetings

Supervision:

  • Supervise property administration, housekeeping supervisor, and sales and marketing specialist staff
  • Ensure staff meet their job expectations, and grow and develop professionally
  • Provide mentorship and on-the-job training for staff
  • Resolve conflict and address performance issues
  • Recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding of staff

Building Operations:

  • Oversee residential leasing and rent collection
  • Administer the subsidy program
  • Allocate resources to best build community within the context of the property
  • Address pest control issues
  • Establish rules and policies for the property to operate efficiently and in the best interest of the organization and the tenants.

Development:

  • Attend meetings with the Executive Director (ED) and various stakeholders to support the growth and development of the organization
  • Represent the company at government meetings in the absence of the ED
  • Work closely with the ED and the Chief Financial Officer to determine projections and growth activities
  • Support with sales, and marketing activities
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in housing management and handling tenant issues
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a leadership operations role
  • Effective supervisor to inspire and mentor staff
  • Exceptional customer service experience interacting with diverse people
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess a valid Driver’s license and have a reliable vehicle
  • Obtain and maintain a clear Criminal Record Check
  • Nonprofit experience is preferred
