WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a casual relief position with no guaranteed hours. Availability to work Saturday and Sunday shifts, is required. We are unionized facility. Any permanent position shall be granted to internal employee first if they are qualify.
  • Working environment is typically in the building.
  • The performance of the job requires the ability to lift/move 30 lbs., reach, bend, and twist when you are in the kitchen.
  • Must be physically able to work long periods of time on your feet.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Secondary School Diploma; diploma/education in food services is an asset
  • Must have Valid Food Handlers Certificate
  • Minimum one year experience in commercial cooking
  • Experience in cooking multiple meals for large groups (more than 50 people)
  • Good knowledge of nutrition and creative (making multiple uses with a protein)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and fast learner
  • Ability to work independently and work well on a team
  • Updated Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening (in 6 months) and medical clearance. 

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and serve all meals in accordance with menu provided on his/her shift.  Menu changes permitted only with the Supervisor
  • Food preparation including but not restricted to: washing, chopping, peeling, mixing, cooking and baking
  • Prepare inventory list
  • Accepting deliveries from vendors, checking the invoice with products received and store products accordingly
  • Ensure that all food donations received on shift are recorded properly on the donation record binder
  • Ensure sanitation and cleanliness of kitchen utensils, including tools, containers, fridge, walk in cooler, freezer, both pantry and food holding areas. Ensure that all work areas are clean prior to completion of every meal
  • Adhere to proper standards of hygiene and safe handling of foods while performing duties
  • Adhere to fire and health and safety standards pertaining to the kitchen and other areas of the Centre
  • Adhere to the guidelines of proper food safety at all times
  • Communicate with other kitchen staff effectively and manage volunteers in the kitchen
  • Other job related duties as assigned by the Supervisor or senior management.
