Description
8 month term. Reporting to the Finance Manager and Development and Capital Asset Analyst/Accountant , the Accounting Co-op will contribute actively as a key member of its Finance Team. As an Accounting Co-op, you will assist to deliver day-to-day public sector financial reporting requirements, transaction processing duties, and assist with any ad-hoc projects. New Vista prepares financial reporting to its board of directors, its funder BC Housing and Fraser Health. This role will utilize accounting knowledge, time management skills and effective problem solving.
About New Vista
New Vista Society provides healthcare under Fraser Health and property management for affordable housing projects under BC Housing. With our partnerships, we have many non-market housing projects under development in many sites in Metro Vancouver.
Responsibilities
During your co-op term with New Vista, you will gain work experience in the following areas and gain an understanding of public sector accounting.
- Accounts Payable, includes reviewing, entering, and coding invoices, reconcile vendor statements and follow up on discrepancies
- Accounts Receivable, including processing payments, producing statement of accounts, collections on overdue accounts and account reconciliation
- Assist with monthly financials
- Assist the team with producing financial reports under ASNPO
- Assist with working papers for construction projects
- Take on special projects as required
Qualifications
- Studying Accounting/Finance at a post-secondary institution and completion/completing accounting courses
- Good working knowledge Microsoft Excel
- Previous Co-op or Intern experience is a bonus
- Detail orientated, ability to show initiative and take responsibility
- Effective time management skills
- Enhanced verbal and interpersonal communication skills
