New Beginnings Recovery Home is one of Canada’s first BIPOC-owned residential treatment centres dedicated to addiction and mental health recovery.
Located in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), we provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed care tailored to historically underserved and marginalized populations.

We are seeking a licensed physician to join our multidisciplinary team in a virtual capacity, conducting initial assessments and 1:1 sessions for clients entering our residential program.

Position Overview

  • Role: Virtual Physician — Intake & Ongoing 1:1 Care (co-facilitated)
  • Type: Part-time / Contract / Flexible
  • Work Setting: 100% Virtual (supporting clients admitted to our GTA residential program)

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct virtual 1:1 initial assessments for new admissions to determine clinical suitability for treatment
  • Provide medical clearance for residential admission
  • Identify contraindications, risks, or special care needs prior to entry
  • Prepare and submit concise assessment summaries in our secure EMR system
  • Provide in-house referrals to our consulting psychiatrist or other allied clinicians as needed
  • Co-facilitate 1:1 virtual sessions directly with clients as part of their treatment plan, in collaboration with registered social workers and other staff. (Involvement of MD could be minimal)
  • Engage in brief case discussions with the admissions and clinical team as required

Qualifications

  • Licensed MD in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • Eligible to bill OHIP, independently or under a group billing structure
  • Familiarity with K-codes and OHIP-funded mental health billing processes
  • Experience in addiction medicine, psychiatry, or family medicine (preferred, not required)
  • Competence in virtual care delivery and secure electronic documentation
  • Commitment to anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, client-centered care

Scheduling & Flexibility

  • Fully virtual — work from anywhere within Ontario
  • Flexible scheduling (days, evenings, or weekends)
  • Initial assessments: 20–40 minutes per client
  • 1:1 follow-up sessions: scheduled as appropriate

Compensation

  • Initial assessments: $300/hour (flat rate)
  • Ongoing 1:1 sessions: 80/20 revenue split (physician receives 20% of OHIP-billable services). Sessions are delivered by our staff under the physician’s clinical oversight and review.

Billing & Collaboration Framework

  • Physicians enter a collaborative billing agreement with New Beginnings Recovery Home
  • Group billing registration with OHIP is required to process claims
  • Revenue-sharing applies to OHIP-billed services for 1:1 sessions and co-facilitated group participation
  • Physicians gain access to:
  • Consistent client referrals
  • Full administrative and billing support
  • Secure EMR and telehealth infrastructure
  • Collaboration with an established addiction and mental health care team
