We’re looking for a full-time IT Network Administrator to join our team of dedicated IT professionals at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Reporting to the IT Director, the Network Administrator supports the IT team with the coordination, execution, support and administrative duties associated with the information security and network infrastructure of the Gallery. They will analyse, problem solve and communicate with all departments and positions within the Gallery, as well as external vendors, contractors and service providers. The Network Administrator must be adept at handling incidents, coordinating, and ensuring database stability and network security, and be able to make independent decisions based upon a good understanding of the hardware and software used within the Gallery.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Network Administration & Architecture
Inspect, maintain and enhance the cloud and on-premises routers, switches, firewalls, servers, and file stores of the Gallery by:
Upgrading, maintaining and replacing datastores, servers and network infrastructure in both a proactive and responsive manner as necessary
Investigating and proposing products and solutions to potential and persistent IT threats, disruptions and outages
Developing and modifying the network to promote interactivity, functionality and stability of applications used by the Gallery
Assist with disaster recovery planning and ensure that network data and configurations are backed up regularly
Network Security
Implement and manage network security measures, including firewalls, VPN’s, Intrusion Detection Systems and security patches.
Respond to security breaches, analyse vulnerabilities and take corrective actions to safeguard company data
Keeping abreast of changes in the standards, best practices, technologies, and methodologies within the information security sector
Assess and control the risks associated with modifications to security applications and appliances for both planned changes and unexpected incidents
Granting/removing access, licensing and supporting applications to Gallery staff as necessary
Planning & Deployment
Develop and investigate automation options for the maintenance and documentation of hardware and software assets within the network
Document network diagrams, configurations and credentials in a highly secure manner
Propose changes to network and cloud resources with a focus on reliable, easy to manage and cost-effective solutions
General
Communicate and coordinate with team members to ensure a seamless experience for employees and guests at the Gallery

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE
You hold a degree from an accredited program with a degree in information technology or computer science. You have at least five (5) years of progressive experience in building and supporting complex networks, exceptional analytical, conceptual and problem-solving ability, and strong knowledge of IT and Network infrastructure design.
Demonstrated ability to investigate and document software and hardware problems, to prioritize resolution requirements and to correct problems within a defined scope
Strong customer service approach to help solve issues for users in an efficient manner
Ability to make decisions in accordance with applicable policies, practices, rules and regulations and to perform assigned duties under general supervision
Ability to maintain, install, test and configure computer hardware and specified software
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts
COMPENSATION AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Salary Range: Pay Grade 26, $37.25 - $43.63 per hour
Schedule: Monday to Friday, Nine-Day Fortnight, 8:30am to 5:15pm
This is a unionized position. This assignment falls under the jurisdiction of CUPE Local 15-VMECW. This is an in-office position at the Gallery’s downtown Vancouver location. Applicants must be available to work on site.
