The Spot, “Where YOU(th) Want To Be,” is the Jane/Finch Centre’s dedicated youth program, located in Yorkgate Mall. The Spot offers programs and services for youth aged 13–29, focusing on building leadership, personal development, and supporting youth to reach their full potential. As a not-for-profit organization serving a diverse youth community, our summer program prioritizes hiring youth who reflect the lived experiences and cultures of the populations we serve. Our Youth Team works to reduce barriers for youth, with a focus on addressing anti-Black racism, mental health challenges, and socio-economic inequities. 

Position Overview: Youth Program Assistant
The successful applicant hired through the Canada Summer Jobs program will support community-based youth programming while gaining experience in outreach, facilitation, event coordination, and youth engagement within a community and social service setting.

Programming may include youth violence prevention initiatives, sports and recreation, arts and media programming, mental health and wellness activities, leadership groups, newcomer youth engagement, employment readiness support, tutoring, drop-ins, and community events.

Specific Responsibilities:

Support outreach and engagement activities alongside the Youth Team, resident leaders, and community partners.

  • Assist with the planning and delivery of youth programs, summer activities, workshops, and community events 
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with youth, families, community members, and program partners.
  • Support workshops, group sessions, recreational programming, drop-ins, and community events in both in-person and online settings.
  • Assist with program logistics including setup, registration, attendance tracking, outreach, and general administrative support.
  • Support newcomer youth engagement initiatives and community-based programming for newcomer youth and families.
  • Assist youth and families with general program navigation and referrals to community resources under staff supervision.
  • Support outreach, promotional materials, and social media engagement related to youth programming and events.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a secondary, post-secondary, or technical program with an interest in youth work, community development, or social services.
  • Experience or interest in working with low-income, racialized, newcomer, or equity-deserving communities is an asset.
  • Comfortable using Zoom, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Instagram, and other online tools.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to engage diverse youth and families.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
  • Residency or strong connection to the Jane and Finch community is an asset.
  • Experience in outreach, recreation, facilitation, or community engagement is an asset.

Eligibility Requirements (Canada Summer Jobs Program):

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • Must possess a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
