Who is Caregivers Alberta?

We provide resources, support and education to help unpaid caregivers provide care to family members or friends. Our services are wide-ranging to match the needs of caregivers: from our caregiver support line to one-on-one coaching and peer support groups to our award-winning caregiver education program, COMPASS for the Caregiver.

We serve caregivers, employers and healthcare professionals across Alberta. We are continually expanding our programs and support services, evolving them in response to caregivers’ needs. Beyond that, we also give caregivers the tools and resources they need to be more confident and resilient and, ultimately, create a sustainable caregiving journey.

Position Scope/Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Volunteer Resources and Community Development, the Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for building and nurturing relationships with relevant stakeholders in communities across Alberta. Particular focus will be given to supporting the development of in-person peer support groups and the planning and delivery of regional gatherings.

To be successful in this position, the incumbent will combine strategic thinking with partnership development, consultation, and engagement with community stakeholders. They will help local stakeholders identify issues affecting caregivers and support Caregivers Alberta in developing practical, community-based responses.

Key Responsibilities:

• Community Engagement

o   Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, volunteers, healthcare professionals, caregivers, and other local stakeholders.

o   Represent Caregivers Alberta at community events, inter-agency meetings, conferences, presentations, and other outreach opportunities.

o   Assist with regional gatherings and other community initiatives that increase awareness, connection, and access to caregiver supports.

• Peer Support and Program Delivery

o   Work with community partners and volunteers to establish and sustain local peer support groups and other caregiver connection initiatives.

o   Support program promotion, facilitator training, initial program delivery, and ongoing relationships with peer support partners and facilitators.

• Volunteer Engagement

o   Support the recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing engagement of regional Peer Support and Ambassador volunteers.

o   Help maintain volunteer records, policies, procedures, activity reports, and other program information.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

We are looking for someone who is confident building relationships, facilitating meetings, delivering presentations, and working collaboratively with community partners and volunteers. The successful candidate will be organized, proactive, compassionate, and able to manage multiple priorities while following through on projects with accuracy and attention to detail.

Post-secondary education in human or social services, program development and coordination, volunteer administration, or a related area is preferred, along with experience in relationship-building and nonprofit or community-based work. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered, including applicants with substantial experience but no post-secondary education.

Work Requirements:

o   This is a 0.5 FTE position, with hours generally worked between Monday and Friday during regular business hours. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.

o   The position involves moderate travel. A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required.

o   The ability to work from home is required. Computer equipment is provided.
