Salary Range: $96,200- $113,040 and up to $129,880

We are currently seeking a Director of Finance. Our main Finance Team is located in Sault Ste. Marie, ON; however, consideration will be given to candidates who can attend offices under a hybrid work arrangement in Sault Ste. Marie, Dryden, London, Hamilton, Timmins or Peterborough.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the successful applicant will be an integral member of the Finance team, responsible for, but not limited to, analyzing and interpreting financial and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization. This position will develop and control annual budget and long-term financial plans. This role will also administer the organization's funds according to the approved budget and monitor its financial expenditures. The Director of Finance must possess a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, with ten years of progressive management experience. The successful candidate will be a goal-oriented, organized, enthusiastic individual who understands and appreciates how safe, affordable housing contributes to the quality of life and serves as a stable foundation.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
1. Full-Cycle Accounting & Financial Operations
• Oversight: Manage and direct all day-to-day accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and payroll.
• Budgeting: Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department heads to establish fiscal targets and monitor performance.
• Month-End & Quarter-End Close: Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP/ASNPO).
• Audit Management: Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors, coordinating the annual audit process and ensuring all schedules and requests are delivered on time.
2. Compliance & Risk Management
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax filings, and reporting requirements.
• Internal Controls: Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal financial controls and policies to safeguard organization assets.
• Risk Assessment: Identify and evaluate financial risks, implementing mitigation strategies and maintaining appropriate business insurance coverage.
3. Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
• Forecasting: Develop and maintain rolling financial forecasts, cash flow projections, and scenario planning models to support strategic decisions.
• Performance Analysis: Conduct variance analyses (budget vs. actual) and deliver clear, actionable reports to the executive leadership team regarding financial performance and key metrics.
• Strategic Advisory: Build analytical models to evaluate the financial viability of new business initiatives, capital expenditures, and potential investments.
4. Financial Systems & Integrations
• System Stewardship: Direct the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and auxiliary financial tools.
• Data Integration: Oversee the integration and automated data synchronization between the ERP, CRM, payroll, and other operational systems to eliminate manual entry and reduce errors.
• Single Source of Truth: Establish and enforce data governance standards to ensure a single, highly accurate source of truth for all financial and operational reporting.
To qualify for this role, the successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
• Knowledge of and an appreciation for Indigenous culture and a values system that believes in holistic wellness and in assisting people to become and stay safely housed.
• Proven communication skills to distill complex financial and technical information into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders;
• Performance driven, people centered CPA with 8-10 years of progressive management experience as a controller, finance director, or equivalent leadership roles
• Excellent organization skills and attention to detail;
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information that must not be shared with others;
• Preference for experience in non profit organizations, social housing, real estate development, or property management
Conditions of employment:
• Ability to travel throughout the province of Ontario as required (limited);
• Valid Ontario Driver’s License;
• Safe driving record (3 year driver record search);
• Ability to work varying hours/days;
• Valid CPIC clearance (Criminal Records Check) and/or Vulnerable Sector Check; and
• References.
