Where do we work?
While WJS serves individuals in many communities across Canada, this opportunity is in Nanaimo, BC. Nanaimo is located along the eastern shores of Vancouver Island, just over 100km north of Victoria. It is an area surrounded on three sides by spectacular waterfront views. The area is rich with eco-adventures and personality. As the second largest city on Vancouver Island region, Nanaimo offers urban amenities such as fine dining, boutique shopping, community festivals, along with the natural beauty of the area.
Main’s Program is designed to accommodate youth that have experienced a history of failure in other programs and group homes in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Our services support youth recovering from adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and overcoming other adversity by providing them with housing and trauma-based guidance.
We accommodate and support traumatized youth in comfortable and welcoming facilities with twenty four hour staffing. Paired housemates share common areas but each child has his or her own bedroom. We offer a safe environment in a residential and friendly neighbourhood. An open door policy encourages a wandering youth to return at any time.
The Position and Scheduling:
The Casual Residence Worker including Overnight Awake scheduling (CRW) is part of a dynamic care-giver team and is responsible for assisting our person served (PS) to live successfully in residential settings in an accredited agency. Ensures physical, emotional, social, educational and medical needs are met. The CRW assist PS to enhance quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life skills. Provides behavioural support and supervision in the program and community, implements and monitors individual program plans through observation and accurate reporting, and participates in operating and maintain the program. This position requires union membership with BCGEU.
This position will work a variety of shifts that include weekdays, weekends and evening shifts that could include (but not limited to) scheduling of 0800-1600, 1600-2400, 0000-0800, 0600-1400, 0700-1500, 1400-2200, 1500-2300 and 2300-0700.
