Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) serves as an executive team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the Calgary Zoological Society and the Calgary Zoo Foundation. As the CDO for the Calgary Zoological Society and Calgary Zoo Foundation, the incumbent will assume primary responsibility for implementing strategies to grow a $15M annual fundraising target. Leading the external and government relations functions, the CDO will build a plan to develop key relationships with the goal of helping the organization achieve its vision and mission.
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of ten years of progressive leadership experience at the Senior or Executive level in Fundraising, Marketing, Communications and/or Government Relations. With a creative ability to challenge the status quo, this individual will have proven success expanding and cultivating donor, government and community partner relationships. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to construct, articulate and implement an annual strategic plan and enabling tactics, and will have direct experience involving grants and gifts above $1,000,000. This individual will champion sustained high-performance teamwork and organization-wide collaboration in a manner consistent with the Zoo’s team-oriented culture.
