Come join our growing team. Thorpe Recovery Centre is seeking applicants to add to our Addictions Counselling team. Our Addictions Counsellor functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary care team to provide services that promote wellness while empowering individuals to achieve their highest level of functioning. In delivering these services, the Addictions Counsellor utilizes a case management approach, consulting with their clinical team and other supporting agencies. The Addictions Counsellor is required to provide coordination in the areas of case management, case planning, and implementation of programming. The Addictions Counsellor provides support to program offerings including (but not limited to): Detox, Transition, Residential and Intensive Programs.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

Residential Counselling:

  • Apply appropriate assessment and diagnostic criteria, using accepted methods, including gathering information from family members and other collateral
  • Provide counselling as needed to the clients in the Addictive Disorders
  • Develop a treatment plan for each client based on the assessment of presenting
  • Adapt treatment modalities to the client’s individual characteristics and
  • Explore all available resources in maximizing the most effective plan for the
  • Utilize an interdisciplinary approach to treatment where
  • Provide ongoing evaluation and revision of client’s progress and
  • Provide appropriate intervention to the client and the community based on their assessment and treatment
  • Provide a range of counselling and education services including: individual, group and family services.
  • Provide relapse prevention
  • Assess and provide direct intervention or referral to appropriate service providers/programs.
  • Provide coordination in the areas of case management, case planning and implementation of programming.
  • Deal effectively with addictive patterns of behavior, concurrent disorders and other mental health behavioral and emotional concerns such as abuse, violence, grief and
  • Coordinate and/or participate in case management, consultation and in departmental planning activities.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of program

 

  • Record case-notes, and produce client-related documentation such as reports according to accepted practices and
  • Maintain regular contact with client referrals according to the frequency and method desired by the particular referral in order to keep them apprised of client progress and/or
  • Intervene as advocate for clients to resolve emergency problems in crisis
  • Complete and maintain accurate records and reports regarding the client’s histories and progress, services provided and other required information.

 

Program Facilitation:

  • Facilitate therapeutic groups, lectures and
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of TRC program
  • Adapt treatment modalities to the client’s individual characteristics and needs throughout various programs.

 

Intensive Program:

  • Provide counselling (as required) to clients attending Intensive
  • Provide ongoing evaluation and revision of client’s progress/goals.
  • Support clients with problem solving, compatibility and conflict
  • Conduct individual and group counselling
  • Explore all available resources in maximizing the most effective plan for the

 

Detox Counselling:

  • Provide coverage (as required) for those in Detox and Transition
  • Conducts assessments for clients upon
  • Completes discharge plans and summaries for clients upon program
  • Monitors the daily progress of clients throughout the Detox and Transition
  • Maintains appropriate communication with the care team regarding the client’s treatment
  • All other related duties as required from time to

 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • A Master’s Degree in Psychology, Counselling or Social Work combined with one to three years experience in Addiction
  • Certification in Sex Addiction Therapy (CSAT) an advantage.
  • Certification (or working towards the certification) with The Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF).
  • Sound knowledge of various therapeutic addiction counselling theories and
  • Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide range of individuals consisting of diverse ages and cultures, in potentially volatile and emotionally charged
  • Ability to work well under pressure, individually and as part of a
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated ability to assist clients and family members with concern and empathy, respecting their confidentiality and privacy in a respectful
