The YMCA of Northern BC is seeking a qualified, passionate applicant to join our Prince George team!

The YMCA is the largest provider of child care in Canada and the YMCA of Northern BC is the largest not-for-profit provider here in the North. Currently, the YMCA of Northern BC operates licensed child care at 13 locations in five communities: Prince George, Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Fort St. John, and Chetwynd.  We offer child care, preschool, and after-school care. We serve 600 families with 95 exceptional staff.

We are currently seeking a School Age Leader for our Prince George location.  If you believe in the potential of children from five to twelve years of age, are interested in supporting families and want to help build a healthy community where children learn, grow, and thrive, then this is a job for you! The ideal candidate will bring a passion for continuous improvement, excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and a team work approach. They will demonstrate the character, skills, and personality to work with children.



Major Responsibilities and Abilities:

  • To establish and maintain positive daily communication and interaction with families, providing quality child care, excellent service to families and building meaningful relationships
  • To ensure all safety and supervision standards are implemented and maintained according to licensing and YMCA requirements
  • To implement YMCA A Place to Connect curriculum with the support of your leader
  • To plan and implement an engaging and developmentally appropriate program of activities
  • To ensure that children are released only to those on the authorized pick up list and that people you do not know or recognize present proper identification as per YMCA and Licensing requirements
  • You are enthusiastic, fun and great role model
  • You are flexible and willing to learn new skills
  • You have the ability to follow the requirement of your full job description


  • Responsible Adult certification, equivalent child related training or a willingness to obtain training
  • Current Child Care First Aid, CPR and AED certification
  • Must be 19 years of age
  • Three professional references
  • Current Immunization record and TB testing compliance
  • Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with clear Vulnerable Sector Search. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork.
