Program Coordinator Position

 

The Old Strathcona Youth Co-op is currently seeking an individual to fill the position of Full-Time Program Coordinator. The Old Strathcona Youth Society is a front-line, multi-agency team that has been established to contribute support, information and resources to high risk and street involved youth 14 to 24 years old in the Old Strathcona area of Edmonton.  The “Co-op” strives to be a flexible, street-level resource concerned with securing the safety, self-worth and dignity of youth. 

 

responsibilities: As the Program Coordinator you will be responsible for providing services to youth within the Co-op including: building trusting, intentional relationships, providing information and resources, organizing and/or facilitating workshops on relevant topics, collecting daily stats and creating month/year end reports, and supervising activities within the Co-op.  It will be important that the person who fills the position has a strong understanding of services and resources for youth in Edmonton.  The position will also be responsible for being a mentor to students and volunteers and does include evening and weekend shifts. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Degree or Diploma in human services (Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Nursing, Psychology, Sociology, etc.);
  • Demonstrated ability to develop positive, effective, professional rapport and relationship with youth;
  • Experience working with youth in a community based setting;
  • Ability in managing crisis situations
  • Ability to advocate on behalf of youth and in program development and implementation;
  • Knowledge of the barriers youth have in dealing with poverty, homelessness and self esteem issues;
  • Knowledge and understanding of harm reduction practices and safety planning;
  • Proficiency in Excel, Access or other data collection program;
  • Ability to work flexible hours and evenings;
  • Valid Drivers License, own vehicle and good driving record;
  • Criminal Record and Child Welfare check required;
  • Standard first aid and level C CPR required;
  • Suicide intervention and crisis intervention training would also be an asset.
