Job Summary & Requirements:

We’re looking for an animal-loving Bookkeeper; one who is looking to put their skills to good use for a cause close to their heart. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you! In this position, you will oversee the daily financial matters of the charity, in line with good practice and in accordance with our internal financial controls.  This position is responsible for payroll management, accounts payable, reconciliation of daily financials, and updating employee, bank, and other financial records. If you are the right candidate, you should also have a process improvement mindset; looking for improvements to efficiencies to maximize the impact of this role.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Payroll management, including but not limited to: updating employee payroll records, entering timesheet hours/overtime/vacation/etc, maintaining accurate employee payroll records, issuing pay cheques
  • Performing accounts payable duties such as: paying invoices and maintaining supplier accounts
  • Reconciling and managing bank accounts
  • Provide support and guidance to other staff and volunteers when requested
  • Other duties and projects as needed

 

Job Qualifications:

Education:

  • Minimum college degree or certificate in accounting, bookkeeping, payroll management, finance management or equivalent
  • Certified Bookkeeper an asset

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of working experience in bookkeeping/accounting/finance or an equivalent environment
  • Experience working within the charity sector strongly preferred

 

Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, working with the team as well as with external parties
  • Motivated self-starter, with ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing and dynamic work environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Quickbooks, Microsoft Excel, and Word
  • Proficiency in or familiarity with databases or CRMs (especially Access and/or e-Tapestry would be beneficial
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail
