Available Opportunity:            1 Full Time Temporary, 35 hours/week (until return of incumbent)

We are looking for a full-time temporary Outreach Family Preservation Worker for the North Shore area. You must be able to travel to families’ homes and within their community to provide a variety of parenting education and supportive interventions that promote healthier family functioning, reduce risk factors, maintain safety and increase well-being.


Outreach Family Preservation Workers provide service to families who are self-referred or referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development. The services provided to these families include:


  • Parenting education and support
  • Intensive outreach services to address child protection concerns and work on case goals that will build on parenting capacity
  • Therapeutic Access to provide visitations for families in a therapeutic environment.


Reporting to the Family Preservation Clinical Supervisor, the Outreach Family Preservation Worker will be responsible for the following functions:

  • Conducting and completing detailed assessments and goals setting for clients.
  • Assessing, screening, referring and linking individuals to internal and external resources as needed
  • Participating in integrative case management meetings as needed to determine outcomes for individuals referred to the Agency
  • Consulting with the Ministry for Children and Family development to co-ordinate and deliver services as appropriate.
  • Communicating and coordinating relevant client information with agency staff across departments.
  • Attending as-needed meetings for the intake, transition and discharge of clients.
  • Providing interventions and brief therapeutic supports to individuals experiencing crisis
  • Planning, organizing and facilitating group in the community, focusing on a variety of parenting topics


What you Bring:

  • Relevant M.A. degree (i.e. Social Services, Counselling Psychology) with 3 years’ experience or relevant B.A. with 5 years’ experience in family preservation/reunification preferred.
  • Experience working with families who may present multiple service needs related to poverty, addictions, violence, child abuse or neglect, and mental health issues.
  • Strong counselling, program planning, and communication skills.
  • Must have experience doing group facilitation
  • An understanding of integrated case management.
  • Computer proficiency – MS Office, ERP/CRM software systems (e.g. Sohema)
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR & AED Level C certificate
  • Valid Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record, and use of own vehicle.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
