Activation Leader

Hesperus Village, Thornhill

Full-time, 35 hours/week

Flexible work hours may  include some evening and weekends

 

 

North York Seniors Centre provides programs and services to promote the physical, emotional and social well-being of adults 55+ living in our diverse community.

 

This position reports to the Supervisor, Care @ Hesperus.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, implement, evaluate daily programs for clients with dementia
  • Assess and assist clients in program participation, respond to clients’ concerns and needs
  • Assist in the development of care plans and maintain documentation on client’s progress/changes
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement processes and assist team with research and development of best practices
  • Promote and maintain a high standard of customer service that is client focused
  • Take all necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of themselves, clients, staff, volunteers and students

 

Qualifications/ Skills:

    Education:             Activation, Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology or Social Service Worker Diploma

    Experience:           

  • Minimum of 1 year of working experience with seniors with cognitive and physical disabilities, preferably in an Adult Day Program setting

      Other:                   

  • Own vehicle with valid driver’s license
  • Proven skills in therapeutic recreation programming
  • Current Safe Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written); other
  • languages, an asset
  • Good physical condition as position requires lifting of heavy objects and supporting/assisting clients
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
