Position: FAMILY DEVELOPMENT WORKER (2 position)

The Family Development Worker is responsible for the delivery of services to families referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development. The worker assists children, youth and families in setting goals, facilitating attainment of goals and/or identifying services to reach them. Services include assessing, counselling, educating, case management and supervised access.
This position reports to the Program Director.
Duties and Responsibilities:
§ To implement the philosophy of integrated case management/wraparound service.
§ To help the children, youth and/or family assess needs and strengths.
§ To help children, youth and families learn and practice skills that foster self-reliance.
§ To maintain necessary participant and program reports and statistics. To ensure that all required documentation is accurate, timely, complete and legible.
§ Actively ensures the emotional, physical, mental, and sexual safety of clients at all times.
§ Assistance and advocacy in accessing the community, support and personal services.
§ Develops, implements and evaluates plans for service delivery.
§ Instruction in areas that impact the family and influence family preservation, including parenting skills, household maintenance and routines, problem-solving skills and discipline support.
§ Individual and group work with children, youth and/or families.
§ Maintains a thorough knowledge of community resources.
§ Maintains confidentiality of all information related to the organization’s clients and staff.
§ To be familiar with and adhere to the Procedures and Policies of the agency.
§ To be familiar with and adhere to the practices and procedures of the Family Development Program.
§ To deliver the program services to children, youth and families in accordance with government standards, acts, and regulations, as well as accreditation standards and licensing requirements.
§ To take responsibility for the correct use and maintenance of agency facilities and equipment.
§ To perform all other duties as assigned.
§ To provide supervised access visits
§ Degree in Child and Youth Care or related field and at least 2 years of experience in the field of family and children’s services with an emphasis on the counseling of high risk children, youth and their families. Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
§ Direct program delivery experience in the community social/human services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of working with at-risk children youth and families and a demonstrated understanding of issues affecting these families.
§ Must have a broad base of skills including those in behavior management, addictions, family violence, abuse issues, conflict resolution, parenting and family mediation.
§ Current First Aid preferred
§ Clear Criminal Record Check
§ Driver’s License and use of a reliable vehicle
§ This position involves flexible hours (evening and weekend work) to accommodate the needs of clients.
§ Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including group communication techniques and presentation skills
§ Good organization, time and general management skills
§ Ability to work effectively with other program staff, referring staff and other community professionals.
