WJS Canada is currently looking for individuals to join our teams in the Greater Vancouver area, as casual/on-call Residence Workers (may include overnight awake scheduling), as well as recruiting for future openings.

The Position:

The Residence Worker position which may include Overnight Awake scheduling is part of a dynamic care-giver team and is responsible for assisting our persons served (PS) to live successfully in residential settings in an accredited agency. Ensures physical, emotional, social, educational, and medical needs are met. The RW assists PS to enhance quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life skills. Provides behavioural support and supervision in the program and community, implements and monitors individual program plans through observation and accurate reporting, and participates in operating and maintaining the program. The RW is skilled in supporting complex health needs and/or youth. The casual positions within the city of Vancouver require union membership with CUPE.


These positions will work a variety of shifts that include weekdays, weekends and evening shifts that could include (but not limited to) scheduling of 0800-1600, 1600-2400 and 0000-0800. Casual shifts will cover vacation, sick time and extra staffing requirements, as needed, up to a maximum of 40 hours per week.


Future Openings include both temporary, permanent and casual / on-call positions that can include both part-time and full-time scheduling within programs in the Vancouver, Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley areas (i.e. Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey, Langley, Abbotsford).


As an ideal candidate you possess:

  • Grade 12 education plus certificate or equivalent experience in related human/social service field
  • Preference given to those with a minimum of one year related experience
  • Current WCB Occupational First Aid, Level 1 (or ability to obtain within the probation period)
  • Ability to use common computer applications required (training provided)
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract

Each of the Community Living program is designed to provide services to adults we serve with personalized support programs that stress independence, support unique strengths and qualities, and encourage integration into the community.


Our Youth Residential program is designed to encourage youth to reach their full potential by discovering their own inner strengths. Programs balance life skill education with recreation in a culturally appropriate context. The program focuses on encouraging positive life changes and increasing the young person’s self-esteem in a therapeutic environment.
