Roles and Responsibilities

The Outreach Coordinator position has the responsibility to assist people who are experiencing poverty.  The main duties are to:

  • Be an ambassador for Red Bear Healing Home
  • Treat people with respect
  • Develop and maintain community relationships and networks
  • Builds a sense of trust in our communities

Reports to Executive Director 

 

Education and Other Requirements

  • A degree in or working towards a BA in sociology, social work, psychology, international development or Community College Human Services
  • Must be between the ages of 18 and 30
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Certificates in First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Mental health First Aid Seniors, Peer Support, Suicide Prevention and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or willingness to attain are assets

 Qualifications

  • Honest, reliable, patient, kind, friendly and non-judgemental
  • Experience working or volunteering with the public, the voluntary sector or with people who are experiencing poverty an asset
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written; a good listener
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite especially word and excel)
  • Detail oriented
  • Motivated/self-starter/ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able maintain confidentiality
  • Agree to Red Bear Healing Homes principles and mandate
  • Knowledge of or interested in learning about services available to people experiencing poverty
  • A willingness to listen, learn, develop new skills and respond to guidance
  • English plus French or Arabic would be considered as asset
  • A person with lived experience--disabilities, recovered from substance abuse or other, poverty, homelessness, mental health issues—would be considered as assets – Please disclose in your cover letter
  • Access to a phone (preferably cell), computer with Microsoft office, internet and transportation are assets

 

Duties

  • Contact and schedule presence at community hubs, soup and community kitchens, food banks, community events, shelters, workshops, conferences and other nonprofits for in person sign up for free voice mail, information, resources, referrals and promotions
  • Data entry
  • Provide access to resources, information and provide referrals where necessary
  • Develop press releases and PSAs
  • Develop reports
  • Develop and coordinate events
  • Find funding assistance to sustain program and services
  • Facilitate evaluation and success of program
  • Access used household necessities and deliver (pending)
  • Other duties as required
  • Term summer - up to 16 weeks/40 hours per week (pending)
