Eligibility:

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations

About the Organization:

Established in 2009, The Roberta Bondar Foundation (RBF) fuses environmental science and visual art through photography of the natural world to generate engagement, stimulate creativity and promote ethical responsibility for the natural environment. Our work is based on four pillars: i) the Bondar Challenge, ii) the Traveling Exhibition and Learning Experience, iii) Speaker Series, Workshops and Seminars, and iv) Research and Publications.

 

Position Description:

Working under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, with guidance from the Chair of the Board or President as appropriate, this role will have a focus on content creation of videos and other materials to promote the Foundation and its work. A large part of the role will also involve supporting program operations. This includes working on social media, program logistics, as well as administrative and organizational needs when required. The employee may also travel from time to time with the Program Coordinator to make site visits to summer camp locations where the Bondar Challenge is being delivered.

 

Videography, Marketing and Social Media

  • Create videos to highlight the work of the Foundation and expand our reach
  • Review and update existing educational videos on our online toolkit for trainers
  • Capture footage at our events and on field visits where programs are being delivered
  • Edit new and existing footage using video editing software
  • Obtain written consent from subjects in footage taken using the Foundation’s image release form
  • Assist the Program Coordinator in increasing our influence on social media, which includes drafting posts, creating a variety of digital materials including the design of electronic announcements and promotional items, developing content for our newsletters, and contributing to communication strategies
  • Disseminate feedback surveys to our participating organizations and analyze results on SurveyMonkey to help improve our programs

 

Preparing & organizing materials for Bondar Challenges (BC)

  • Monitor inventories of program materials
  • Support tracking of applications and organize program materials based on participant and trainer numbers
  • Package and mail program materials to participating organizations
  • Compile and organize BC submissions for the Foundation’s judges
  • Prepare contest results for publication on the Foundation’s website
  • Contact participating organizations regarding program set-up, delivery and follow-up

 

Complete ad hoc projects to support the work of the Foundation

  • Stay updated with administrative documents as well as processes and procedures used in delivering the Foundation’s programs
  • Other duties as required, such as supporting event management

 

Requirements:

  • Educational background in a STEAM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) or ICT field (Information and Communication Technologies)
  • Strong video editing skills and experience with software such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and/or Final Cut Pro
  • Experience using Canva, MailChimp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn
  • Experience with SurveyMonkey
  • Strong written communication for drafting emails and digital content
  • Great interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take on a diverse set of tasks
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks and responsibilities but is comfortable asking for help and guidance when needed
  • Highly motivated, great self-starter, able to work with little supervision at times
  • Interest in Environmental Education and the nature-human interface
