The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta (SSA) is a not-for-profit organization that improves quality-of-life and provides information and support programs for Albertans affected by schizophrenia and related disorders. The Society also works to increase public awareness and understanding of schizophrenia while reducing stigma and discrimination due to this illness.  SSA offers quality programs and services based out of our six branches throughout the province of Alberta.  We’re very proud of our three housing facilities that provide housing for people living with serious mental illness and at risk of homelessness.

 

The SSA is seeking full time Community Education Program Coordinator for our Calgary branch.     

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Provincial Program Director, the Community Education Program Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the Community Education Program, Starry Night Theatre Performances and will assist with other programs in the Calgary branch.

 

  • Coordinating the Community Education Program (CEP)
  • Promote and raise awareness of the programs in the community
  • Gain referrals for the programs through relationships with other community agencies and promotional activities
  • Arranging/scheduling presentations and performances
  • Overseeing presentations, rehearsals and performances
  • Recruiting and training new CEP presenters and Starry Night performers
  • Managing travel arrangements for the Starry Night Theatre Performances as needed
  • Administrative duties related to the programs
  • Other duties as required
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required and flex time will be encouraged.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree or Diploma in the Human Services field (social work, psychology, and other social service or health related fields).
  • Minimum of three years experience working with people living with schizophrenia or other related mental health disorders.
  • Experience in Program facilitation and public speaking
  • Strong Knowledge of schizophrenia or psychosis, and community resources
  • Proficiency with computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated initiative, reliability, flexibility and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, time management, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must have valid Criminal Record check
  • Must have valid Driver’s license and personal vehicle

Full-time: 37.5 hours per week

Compensation:  $ 24.00 per hour + comprehensive benefits package
