Our client, Anishinaabe Abinoojii Family Services (AAFS), is seeking a Director of Finance, Admin & HR.  The Director of Finance, Admin & HR (DOFA) is responsible for the development and ongoing implementation of the organizations Financials, Human Resources and Information Systems. This position is considered a pivotal lead role within the administration of AAFS.

Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with AAFS senior management, the DOFA will work systematically to carry out directives and the philosophy of Anishinaabe Abinoojii Family Services.   AAFS was founded on the recognition of the importance of the Anishinaabe family system and the potential of the many traditional methods, strengths and resources within their communities.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

The DOFA recognizes and adheres to AAFS’s Mission to protect Anishinaabe Abinoojii (Anishinaabe children) and to support the healing, wellbeing and strengthening of families through Abinoojii Inakonigewin, to achieve the preservation of families. A sampling of the extensive responsibilities of the DOFA include:  

  • Ensures the AAFS philosophy, policies, procedures and guidelines, First Nation mandates and provincial legislation, regulations and standards are provided to all employees of AAFS, and to monitor any updates for input.
  • Ongoing program support to the Finance Manager, Finance Controller, IT Manager and the Human Resource Manager
  • Supervising multi-departments of employees relating to job performance, appraisal, increases and professional development
  • Systematic planning, implementing, monitoring and revision of all directives of finance and human resource requirements
  • Provides technical support to the Board of Directors and the Finance Committee regarding program financial management procedures
  • Planning budgets and forecasts, in accordance with Provincial, Federal and AAFS guidelines and program funding
  • Provides relevant, competent financial and administrative services to all program areas of the agency
  • Negotiates lease agreements, rental agreements and contracts, with outside agencies and companies as required
  • Staff and departmental planning for future goals/outcomes of each department to reflect the AAFS overall strategic planning

Qualifications

  • MBA with a minimum of five years financial experience in a senior management role;
  • Designated CPA preferred;
  • Management and administrative experience in a social service agency setting;
  • Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and leadership skills;
  • Proven understanding of and ability to translate relevant legislation into agency-program policies and procedures;
  • Thorough knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and Regulations;
  • Knowledge of the Child Protection Standards for Ontario; and of Customary Care and the philosophy of service development;
  • Working knowledge, or willingness to learn, the AAFS administrative operations and structure;
  • Knowledge of the structure and operations of Treaty #3 territory and its member First Nation communities including tribal and external service agencies;
  • Excellent assessment and analytical skills with proven ability to determine successful outcomes and goals. This includes planning, organizing, problem solving and decision making;
  • Direct working knowledge and experience in a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite, Dayforce HCM and various other program related programs;
  • Required understanding of local customs and traditions that utilize a community minded approach;
  • Excellent time management with the ability to plan accordingly to project timelines and goals
  • Ability to flex daily work hours;
  • Must possess a valid Ontario G Driver’s Licence and be willing to travel;
  • Must provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Driver’s Abstract;
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin is preferred and a definite asset.
