The Canadian Red Cross Society, a not for profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping the most vulnerable in Canada and throughout the world, is currently seeking a Project Manager, Emergency Response Unit (ERU) Inventory Scale-up.


Within the Emergency Readiness (ER) team and under the direction of the Director, ER the Project Manager, ERU Capacity Scale-Up will be responsible to manage a six-month project aimed at scaling up the CRC’s field hospital inventory holdings specifically for COVID pandemic response.


All actions undertaken by the Project Manager, ERU Capacity Scale-Up are guided by the CRC Mission, Vision, the Fundamental Principles, CRC Policy and Procedures related to supply chain management and any specific contractual obligations   outlined in the Project’s signed agreement(s).

In this role you will:


  • In collaboration with relevant International Operations stakeholders (Emergency Readiness, Supply Chain Management, Finance), develop the key project tools.
  • Outline Project Charter/Summary and develop Project Implementation Plan with accompanying resource allocation, budget and Work Breakdown Structure.
  • Develop six-month work plan with accompanying GANTT chart.
  • Develop project monitoring or tracking tools based on targets/performance indicators identified.
  • Identify risks and incidents, as well as, mitigation measures and monitor implementation.
  • In collaboration with relevant CRC stakeholders (Canadian Ops, Supply Chain Management, Readiness, Operations, etc) brief incoming project team members on project charter/summary.
  • Establish regular communication with project team members to monitor progress over time
  • Update work plan as needed, and as per contextual changes
  • Coordinate the development of Activation/Deployment Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for new ERU kits with relevant stakeholders
  • Prepare monthly report on progress for Emergency Readiness team
  • Review monthly project financial reports to monitor expenditures against budget; escalate any risks identified
  • Prepare project summary of outputs/outcomes, available ERU capacity, SOP for activation/dispatch upon completion of project
  • Follow all CRC’s policies and procedures required to maintain a healthy and safe working environment.
  • Ensure sharing and dissemination of project related materials to all concerned actors in the team and with the Canadian Red Cross Society.


We’re looking for:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in international development, Disaster management or comparable related degree
  • Certificate in project management
  • Proven budgeting and project management skills including attention to detail and working with tight deadlines
  • Prior work experience within a not-for-profit organization an asset
  • Prior experience in supply chain management an asset
  • Experience with the concept of rapid mobilization of stock in the context of an emergency, an asset;
  • Strong written and oral skills in English, French also an asset
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self starter and able to work in an environment with ambiguity
  • Proven ability to be a supportive and productive team member.  
  • Working Conditions
  • Duties are principally conducted remotely in Canada with occasional visit to Mississauga warehouse as needed.
  • Ability to work in stressful and often ambiguous conditions
  • Successfully complete a Canadian criminal record reference check and vulnerable sector check.
