Parent in Residence - Peer Support Position at Foundry Richmond

Seeking an English and Mandarin Speaking Person

 

For 20 years, FamilySmart has been working in B.C. to enhance the quality and experiences of services, support and information families receive when seeking help for their child, youth or young adult with mental health challenges.

 

Position Summary: 

21 hours/week

$20/hour

Location: On-site at Foundry Richmond, virtually and in the community of Richmond.

 

The Parent in Residence will provide peer support at Foundry Richmond to families whose children, youth and young adults are experiencing difficulty with their mental health.

This includes: 

  • Mutual support (emotional, parent mentorship) 
  • Sharing information and resources with families
  • Education
  • Help to build wellness and create opportunities for success for other families whose children, youth or young adults are experiencing difficulty with their mental health.  

 

The Parent in Residence will support families on the phone, in person (when permitted), by email, by virtual video chat, and also in group education sessions.

 

What is Peer Support (Parent in Residence)?

This position is for someone who has their own experiences with helping their child, youth or young adult towards wellness, and supporting their mental health. Because you have experienced receiving support, you will be able share what you have learned and help other families. Your experiences will help families find comfort, and to feel less alone. 

You do not need to be an expert in mental health, your family's experience is enough.

You: 

  • Are good at building relationships
  • Make connections easily
  • Demonstrate compassion and care to others
  • Are able to work as part of an interdisciplinary team at Foundry Richmond
  • Have strong verbal and written skills in: English and Mandarin
  • Can pass a criminal records check
