Job title                       : Summer Children & Youth Outreach Worker

Reports to                  : HM Wetaskiwin Program Manager

Hours of work           : 32 hours/week Tuesday-Friday (some evening & weekend work required)

Position Duration      : June 22th-August 21st (with the  possibility of extending the contract)

Job Summary:

In light of Covid-19, Bethany Homes is working to provide emergency food hamper support to families in Wetaskiwin and area. The role will be working with the team to assist in hamper preparation, gardening, phone call outreach to families, and developing online content (ex: puppet shows, videos, contests) for children and youth on social media (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube). As the province enters stage 2 of the relaunch there is the potential of providing in person programs for children, youth, and families at the Bethany Homes site. In person programs would include offering activities such as horsemanship, archery, gardening, outdoor games & sports, arts & crafts, and interactive Bible lessons.

 

 

Duties and responsibilities:

 

General duties:

  • Plan/Prepare emergency food hampers to local families (this requires repetitive lifting of cases of canned goods & items – up to 50 lbs)
  • Plan/prepare summer online outreach to children/youth in the area
  • Communicate (though word and action) a gospel message to the children of our program.
  • Work with the team at Bethany Homes to provide quality programming for families
  • Support the online outreach of Bethany Homes through puppet skits, and other social media platforms
  • Support and coordinate volunteers who assist with the summer duties at Bethany Homes
  • Be ready to support garden program, this includes weeding, planting, washing, and harvesting plants.

 

Programming:

  • Work as a team in program planning, coming up with games, skits, and other summer activities for our online audience.
  • Drive and deliver food hampers to homes of families who require the service
  • Actively participate in various activities with the staff like small amounts of maintenance (ex: mowing the lawn) and other garden chores
  • Interact with the children and staff in a positive and professional manner.

 

Administrative:

  • Support the programs operating out of Bethany Homes as needed.
  • Fill in personal time sheet at the beginning of each shift and sign out at the end of each shift.
  • Fill in leave request forms as needed.

 

Security:

  • Converse with children and diffuse tempers where necessary, following the Kids in Action policy manual.
  • Report any unusual situations (ie. Anything that is broken or open, injuries, etc.).
  • Discuss with supervisor or manager anything that is of suspicion that involves the health and safety of the children/staff

 

Other:

  • Keep areas free of all potential hazards.
  • Attend staff meetings, Bible studies, prayer meetings, and staff functions.
  • Be aware of Hope Mission/program policy and procedures.
  • Miscellaneous duties as required.

 

 

Other requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Being a Christian Organization we require our employees to be in agreement and sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith (http://hopemission.com/about-us/values/).
  • Must meet the eligibility requirements of Canada Summer Jobs – must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Able to provide Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset.
  • Adherence to Hope Mission’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Class 5 license an asset
  • Experience working with children & youth
