Hours:  35 hours/week
Schedule:  Flexible, based on client needs with ability to work Sunday afternoons and/or weekday evenings as required

The Opportunity:

DIVERSEcity is seeking a Regular, Full-Time Clinical Counsellor for our Counselling Services team.  This position will provide intensive counselling services to immigrant and refugee children, youth, and families who are at risk for gang involvement.  This role will involve both in-office and outreach support.  All counselling services and interventions are individualized for each client and family, with the aim of reducing barriers the client is facing and increasing capacity through a strength-based therapeutic approach. In order to serve the needs of our community, candidates must be able to provide service in English and Punjabi. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop strong, collaborative therapeutic relationships with clients and families to support them to achieve their goals and meet their needs with a strength-based approach. 
  • Provide clinical services that include intake, screening, and ongoing assessments children, youth and families with gang involvement or who are at risk for gang involvement;
  • Provide individual, family, group, and psycho-educational supports as appropriate for the client and family. 
  • Assist the client to build stronger social supports and access additional resources through referrals. 
  • Maintains client and program reports and statistics. All records, reports, and files should be accurate and completed according to agency policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to ethical principles and standards of practice for the counselling profession as it relates to informed consent, confidentiality, duty to report, and general professional conduct. 
  • Adapt counselling approaches and provide different interventions to the unique needs of clients. 
Mandatory Qualifications:
  • A Master’s level university degree in counselling, psychology, social work, or a related discipline. 
  • Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) designation from the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors is preferred.  Individuals in the process of obtaining their designation may be considered;
  • Fluency in Punjabi and English.
  • Two years’ recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Qualified candidates will also posses: 
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and facilitate groups designed to provide counseling services and therapeutic interventions to a wide variety of participants;
  • Skills, knowledge and sensitivity on issues related to violence and/or substance use;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and familiarity with database programs;
  • Occupational First Aid is an asset;
  • Class 5 BC Driver’s License is an asset;
  • ability to work Sunday afternoons and/or weekday evenings as required by client needs.
This position requires union membership.  A Criminal Record Check is a requirement of employment.
