The Citizenship Challenge offers educational resources – learning tools, videos, and quizzes – on the topic of civics education to encourage Canadians to be active citizens in their communities. The program’s main offering is the Challenge quiz, a mock citizenship quiz based on the test taken by newcomers on the path to citizenship.

 

The Program Officer for the Citizenship Challenge will be an individual who is passionate about the work of Historica Canada, has had experience working independently to achieve deliverables in a timely fashion, and is enthusiastic about celebrating and promoting Canadian history, civics, and culture. The successful candidate is organized, detail-oriented, flexible, and a strong communicator. This position reports to the Program Manager.

 

The responsibilities of the Program Officer include:

  • Work under the supervision of the Program Manager to meet program deliverables, including promotion of online quiz participation, and the creation of civics-themed learning tools and video resources;
  • Conduct direct email and telephone outreach to educators and community organizations to encourage participation in the program;
  • Promote the program to target audiences through daily social media posts and engagements and regular social media advertising campaigns;               
  • Working with website management system to pull reports and monitor participation;
  • Identifying promotional opportunities including conferences, events, and other online promotional opportunities;
  • Day-to-day monitoring of budget and expenditures;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • A completed college or university degree in the arts, social sciences, education, communications, or other relevant education and experience;
  • 1-2 years professional experience, with at least one years of professional experience in an outreach-related role;
  • Experience developing educational materials (e.g., learning tools, video resources) an asset;
  • Bilingualism preferred, (English and French);
  • Experience running outreach and promotional campaigns on behalf of a program/organization on social media;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently or as part of a close-knit team;
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and research skills;
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian history an asset.

This is a contract position beginning no later than July 27, 2020 ending on March 31, 2021, with the possibility of extension. The annual salary is $44,000.00, less applicable statutory deductions, which will be paid to the successful candidate twice a month.

This position is based at Historica Canada’s Head Office in Toronto. Please note: Historica Canada’s team is currently working remotely, but staff will be expected to return to work in the Toronto office, once it is deemed safe and advisable to do so by the City’s public health authorities.

 

When Covid-19 public health guidelines allow for it, this position may require travel (air and ground) within Canada and subject to government safety protocols.
