Historica Canada’s Bilingual Outreach Officer for The Memory Project Speakers Bureau will be a strong communicator, and someone who is enthusiastic about sharing the stories of Canada’s veterans. The successful candidate is a strong team player with excellent organization skills and a results-oriented attitude and a technology-forward skillset. This position reports to the Program Manager.

The responsibilities of the Bilingual Outreach Officer include:

  • Initiate and carry out outreach campaigns to encourage Veterans and currently serving Canadian Forces members to become volunteer speakers with the Memory Project;
  • Reach out with a variety of communications tools to encourage educators, school boards, classrooms, libraries, community groups and other potential partners from across Canada to make requests for speakers;
  • Coordinate visit requests for classrooms, youth groups, community groups, etc., by acting as the liaison with the Memory Project’s volunteer speakers across Canada;
  • Assist with the development and execution of the program’s strategy for online engagements (online visit facilitation and organization/video panels/discussions/online Q&A sessions etc.);
  • Assist in developing and executing a strategic marketing and communications plan, including maintaining and growing the program’s social media presence, to increase the number of speakers and groups engaging with the program;
  • Support the Program Coordinator in the day-to-day administration of the program;
  • Assist with the development of learning tools and video projects for use in classrooms and communities;
  • Assist with the creation and development of promotional materials as well as ad placement;
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • A completed university degree in the arts, social sciences, education, communications or other relevant education and experience;
  • High level of bilingualism is required, both oral and written (English and French);
  • 2-3 years professional experience, with at least 1 to 2 years of professional experience in an outreach-related role;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team to achieve goals;
  • Excellent phone manner – strong communication and listening skills a must;
  • Extensive experience running outreach and promotional campaigns on behalf of a program/organization on social media (including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit);
  • Volunteer management experience an asset;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently;
  • A high degree of familiarity with online meeting platforms and video conferencing (Zoom, Teams, Skype);
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and research skills;
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector is an asset;
  • Team player with strong leadership and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment;
  • Adaptable to change;
  • Experience in working with a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian history and an appreciation for Canada.


This is a contract position beginning no later than July 27, 2020 and ending on March 31, 2021, with the possibility of extension. The annual salary is $44,000.00, less applicable statutory deductions, which will be paid to the successful candidate twice a month.

This position is based at Historica Canada’s Head Office in Toronto. Please note: Historica Canada’s team is currently working remotely, but staff will be expected to return to work in the Toronto office, once it is deemed safe and advisable to do so by the City’s public health authorities.


This position may require travel (air and ground) within Canada and subject to government safety protocols.
