part time  •  Hourly wage of $21.92 - $25.53

WJS Canada is currently looking for an individual to join the Sumas House team in Richmond, as a Permanent Part-Time Residential Child and Youth Worker.

Job Reference – #J0220-0315

The Program:

The Sumas House Program is designed to accommodate youth that have experienced a history of failure in other programs and group homes. Our services support youth recovering from adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and overcoming other adversity by providing them with housing and trauma-based guidance.

We accommodate and support traumatized youth in comfortable and welcoming facilities with twenty four hour staffing. Paired housemates share common areas but each child has his or her own bedroom. We offer a safe environment in a residential and friendly neighbourhood. An open door policy encourages a wandering youth to return at any time.

The Position:

The Residential Child and Youth Worker (RCYW) provides care to children, youth or adults with moderate to severe behavioural problems in a residential or day program setting in an accredited agency. As key worker for assigned persons served, the RCYW is responsible for overall development and care of those individuals. In conjunction with the individual’s care team, the RCYW assesses physical, psychological, social and developmental needs, and designs and implements individualized personal service plans and plans of care that address and meet those needs. The RCYW also participates in the operation and maintenance of the program. This position requires union membership with CUPE.

Scheduling:

One (1) permanent part-time position with a weekly schedule of 24 hours, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 0800-1600.

As an ideal candidate you possess:

  • A diploma or degree in one of the humanities, social work or related field. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two years recent related experience in child and youth care, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Previous experience with operating a licensed home and trauma informed practice
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract with a reliable, safe vehicle that has appropriate insurance

Other Requirements:

  • Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates (or ability to obtain within probation period)
  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and Conflict Resolution Certificate (or ability to obtain within probation period)
  • Physician’s note confirming suitability, including immunization records and a negative tuberculosis screening test
  • Positive behavior supports experience

***Prior to confirmation of employment with WJS Canada, all applicants are required to participate in MCFD screening and provide a current (dated within 3 months of hiring date) BC Ministry Check.***
