Options Work Activity Program

The mission of the Options Work Activity Program is to help prepare and integrate Nova Scotians with barriers to employment into the workforce and community. This is achieved by providing pre-employment and employment services, focused on personal, social and work-related skills development. Options Work Activity Program supports participants who have multiple employment-related barriers and, although on the path to sustainable employment, often requires more intensive services than those offered elsewhere.

 

Position Summary

The Options Program Manager is a key member of the MetroWorks Management team. The Program Manager will be expected to maintain the highest standards of management and accountability both in service delivery and in program execution. They will be a leader in establishing an open, welcoming, and supportive environment that engages staff and program participants in a way that makes them feel respected. This will be a full-time position (37.5hrs/week).  Occasional after-hours work may be required depending on the needs of project participants.

 

Qualifications

Individuals considered for this position must demonstrate a strong commitment for working with diverse populations and have a combination of education and work experience that validates their ability to work with clientele and meet project expectations and guidelines. 

 

This position requires that you be in the process of receiving, or be eligible for the Certified Career Development Practitioner designation from the Nova Scotia Career Development Association. A University degree along with extensive experience managing a team is preferred but consideration will also we given to those with a demonstrated work history. A clean criminal record check and vulnerable persons check would also be a requirement.  

 

Salary will be dependant on experience and education and will be discussed during the interview.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of program evaluation concepts and Adult Learning Principles
  • Understanding of the Department of Community Services (DCS), policies and supports

 

 

Direct service provisions

 

  • Advocate for participants and staff so they are supported and empowered
  • Create and adjust staff / participant schedules
  • Organize employee group professional development opportunities
  • Liaise with internal MetroWorks programs and community programs
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to discuss participant updates and interventions
  • Engage in the community to bring awareness of Options Work Activity Program and other MetroWorks’ programs
  • Plan and arrange staff and participant gatherings such as graduations and other special events

 

Administrative Duties

 

  • Keep accurate records and have these records available for review as required
  • Maintain up-to-date information, including creating and closing interventions and participant management
  • Complete program activity reports as required
  • Purchase items needed for individual and group based activities, submit receipts to the accounting department
  • Meet with MetroWorks Management and program stakeholders as required
  • Complete end of project report according to guidelines set out by the funder and MetroWorks
  • Work with MetroWorks Management and DCS staff to prepare project proposals and updates.
  • Research new social enterprise and funding opportunities that would enhance the Program.
