ROLE PURPOSE

This position will provide advanced therapeutic and psychosocial support for team members of the John Howard Society of the Lower Mainland (JHS), with the objective of improving their quality of life, work-life balance, and mental health by facilitating appropriate coping styles, behaviours, attitudes, feelings, and adaptive responses to adverse work-related events.

 

LOCATION

Vancouver (in-person and online sessions should be provided to employees)

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Conducts social and psychosocial assessments and provides appropriate treatment
  • Connects employee with, and gives advice on, applicable community resources
  • Provides one-on-one support to employees facing general challenges or specific critical incidents
  • Plans and facilitates group support and debriefing sessions around work-related situations
  • Maintains appropriate records and ensures appropriate services are provided to staff
  • Provides direct confidential counseling services and referrals through observation, communication, and mental health assessments
  • Maintains reports on each client

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work involves considerable independence of judgment and action and requires the ability to function effectively with a minimum of supervision
  • Conducts in-person and online meetings with staff

 

QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a proven ability to work within a fast-paced, growth-focused environment. The ideal candidate has:

  • Graduated with a Degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, Social Work or a related field
  • Comprehensive knowledge of psychotherapeutic and counseling skills
  • A registration with a professional association (e.g. BCACC, RSW, RTC, RCC, CCC)
  • Three years’ recent related experience providing professional services in the social services or health sector
  • Direct and extensive experience in the social services sector and/or working with vulnerable populations
  • Sound knowledge of the resources available for employees working with direct support and/or social services
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and respond appropriately to emergent situations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interviewing and assessment skills

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate
