Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue organization and expert in perishable food recovery. We rescue surplus, unsold primarily perishable food from across the supply chain and redistribute it to charities and not-for-profits across the country to feed communities.

As our organization expands across Canada through inhouse, third party logistics and our online food donation platform, Second Harvest is scaling our national food donor and distribution network. To support this, Second Harvest is looking for an adaptive, decisive, and persuasive team-player to join our team as the National Food Distribution Manager.

Your role as a National Food Distribution Manager is to organise the storage and distribution of goods. You'll ensure that the right products are delivered to the right location on time and at no or low cost. You will also be involved in transportation, stock control, warehousing, and monitoring the flow of goods.

We are looking for a hard-working individual with strong relationship-building skills who can hit the ground running and achieve ambitious targets, supporting Second Harvest’s goal of rescuing and redistributing good healthy food.


  • Lead the overall strategy and implementation of the national third-party distribution network required for
  • Conduct cold calls, secure meetings, and deliver presentations to current and potential logistics and distribution partners to secure the necessary supports for a national food distribution network.
  • Assess and identify regional infrastructure gaps to support the national expansion of operations.
  • Secure national in-kind and discounted transportation, storage, and distribution partners to help facilitate small and large-scale food donations.
  • Work with the National Program Director,, Head of National Field Operations, National Food Donor Manager and Senior Manager, Food Recovery to ensure surplus food is distributed safely across the country.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve issues that may arise between distribution partners.
  • Lead the development of external and internal resources including but not limited to partnership agreements, acknowledgement letters, recognition plans, FAQs, standard operating procedures, etc.
  • Work with the Shared Data Services team to centralize information, support tax receipting and produce and analyze national logistics reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a distribution and logistics pipeline, including contact information, activities, and touchpoints, highlights, lapsed and new partners.
  • Support the development and implementation of an in-kind partner stewardship plan that nurtures, celebrates, and retains donors.
  • Attend food industry, logistics and supply chain trade shows/conferences: network with potential logistics partners.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements including health and safety and government regulations.
  • Keep accurate records.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned to support the overall goals of the organization.

Additional Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of logistics and supply chain
  • 3-5 years of experience working in a client facing role within the food
  • Diploma in logistics an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure in-kind partnerships an asset.
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem solving, and time management
  • Able to travel and have a Valid Class G driver’s license (mileage compensated).
