Summary:  Kiwassa Neighbourhood House, a multi-service community agency working in East Vancouver, with a mission to cultivate opportunities with people and partners to build a socially just, resilient, and connected community. Kiwassa Neighbourhood House is seeking Youth leaders to assist in planning and leading a fun-filled, energetic programs for youth between the ages of 9 to 18. The Youth Leader will report directly to the Youth Program Coordinator.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating age-appropriate activities for youth ages 9-18 years old.
  • Implementing and following Covid19-based health and safety protocols as directed.
  • Monitor activities with youth to ensure that activities are physically distanced at 6 feet apart and safe.
  • Lead groups and provides basic skills instructions in crafts, games, athletic or similar activities.
  • Check facilities, equipment and program activities for safety.
  • Performs minor cleaning and janitorial tasks such as sweeping floors or clearing/cleaning activity
  • Demonstrate organization skills and leading daily age appropriate activities based on theme weeks.
  • Be a positive role model at all times.
  • Provide a safe, co-operative, and fun environment.
  • To follow established centre procedures and protocols to ensure safety of program participants and staff.
  • Other duties will include preparation of daily snack and light administrative duties




  • Previous experience working with a large group of children in a day camp, after school care setting or recreational setting
  • The ability to plan age appropriate activities plus actively leading a wide range of activities.
  • Strong leadership and planning skills.
  • Ability to be flexible in adapting activities to suit individual and group dynamics.
  • Ability and experience working in a multi-ethnic, special needs and socially diverse community.
  • Ability and experience dealing with challenging behaviors and to set appropriate consequences.
  • Ability to demonstrate and utilize conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills, communication and interaction skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team atmosphere.
  • Current 1st Aid Certificate/CPR certification is required




This is a part-time, temporary position of 16-20 hours per week at $20/hr. Compensation:


This a 5 month contract starting August 31 to January, 31, 2020
