Position Title: Child and Youth Support Coordinator - Part Time Permanent
Location: Fort St. John and surrounding area
Qualifications: Diploma in a related human/social service related field. Two (2) years recent related experience. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.
Duties: The Child and Youth Support Coordinator will plan, implement and oversee the day-to-day activities of the Child and Youth Support Program. The CYS Coordinator participates in program development, policies and procedure formulation, and program evaluation. Receives program referrals and disperses these between Child and Youth Support Worker and Child and Youth Support Coordinator. Will teach skill development, provide transition support and navigation for children and youth, ages 5-19, referred by Ministry of Children and Family Development within a 70-km radius outside of Fort St. John city limits. CYS Coordinator will provides individualized service that focus on one to one outreach support. The type and level of services will be tailored to incorporate each child and youth’s culture, interests, needs and abilities. An estimated amount of time to work with each child/youth is approximately 4 hours per week. Some complexities of the children and youth may include behavioural challenges, developmental delays, mental health issues, substance abuse issues and social challenges. Some skill areas for child/youth to develop include coping skills, pro-social interactions, job search, independence skills and accessing and connecting to other community resources.
Job Skills and Abilities: The CYS Coordinator must have the ability to work cooperatively within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as independently. Ability to work with and engage children and youth with a history of anti-social, negative or destructive behaviours. Demonstrated knowledge of various life, social and behavioural skills training techniques and tools to promote child and youth functioning. Must have good organization, time and general management skills and well developed written and verbal communication skills. Ability to operate a PC and related application software programs. Knowledge of the Aboriginal Policy and Practice Framework in British Columbia.
Other Job Information: Will be required to work outside normal office hours, such as evenings and weekends, depending on the time availability of the clients. At least 50% of the hours are anticipated to be evenings and weekends. Worker must have access to a roadworthy vehicle and possess a Class 5 BC Driver’s License. Must have vehicle inspected on hire and annually thereafter. Must maintain vehicle according to manufacturer’s recommendations. Ability to operate a PC and related application software programs.
Hours of Work: 21 hours per week, flexible schedule to accommodate client with late afternoon and weekend appointments.
Vehicle Use: This position requires that the Coordinator uses their personal vehicle for travel in the region as needed. Mileage will be reimbursed according to the BCGEU rates. The Coordinator must have a Class 5 BC driver’s license.
Hourly Rate: $23.23 - $27.06 according to experience. Full benefits and pension upon completion of probation period.
